Before I started this thread, I would have agreed with you. But now, I certainly can't say I like it (yet), but I can admit that some of it is ok and there are albums I've listened to that have impressed me. So basically, while I would not be so naive or conceited as to say, because I've enjoyed a few hip-hop albums, that I suddenly like the genre, I can say I'm a little less (Frownland's favourite word I know) close-minded about it. I can see there is good music in there, just in my case I have to look for it, and what I hear doesn't always appeal to me. But some does. That one did not, unquestionably. As for this one, well I guess we'll (Oddi) see, won't we? Sorry, sorry...

I suppose that's the price I pay for getting one – one! - prog rock album a month: two hip-hops in a row. Well, I pretty much hated Nav's effort, will this be a two-for? It's certainly more upbeat and in-your-face than Nav, but at least there's energy in it, and almost a disco/soul-style boppiness. He also doesn't, so far, shout expletives in my face like the other guy did, nor go on about the size of his dick. Again I say, so far: we're only two tracks in. But no complaints at the moment. Really like the brass on “Built by Pictures”, though I assume it's probably synthesised. Good song, some great bass in it too. Oh, okay: I see there is a trombonist in there, so maybe it's real after all. Something about this makes me think of Stevie Wonder. Am I insane? Well, that's a question for another day I guess.

Definitely no problems with this so far. Like the music arrangements, like the rapping, like the different subjects he's singing about, like the flow of the album too. Percussion is great in “NNGE”, also the backing vocals; could do without the whooping though. Nevertheless, I definitely enjoy this kind of hip-hop much more than the one in the previous album. Mixtape. Whatever. This is solid.

Nine more, after the one I'm doing. They're all in strict chronological order, and in the case of several released the same day, alphabetical. I'm currently up to Old 97's, so Stormzy should have chosen a different name if he wanted to be reviewed earlier.

Probably, all things being equal, another two to three days I would say. Maybe sooner. By the end of the weekend anyway.

Wouldn't it be better to know the exact time the albums were released? Shoddy I must say.

I've been meaning to get a little more into alt-country, so let's see what these guys have to offer. Well the first track has me pumped right away, great power and energy in it, and it continues in this vein, with the odd ballad thrown in. Great stuff all round. The only real alt-country bands I've heard up to now are Houndtooth and Strawfoot (sounds like a seventies TV cop duo, huh?) so if there's more like this I'm going to be seeking it out, be sure. A really fun band and I bet they're a riot live.

And Wiki calls them Progressive Death Metal! Talk about confusion! But given that the last song on the album is a multi-part suite, I have a feeling the Prog Metal tag may fit better. Plus, look at some of those titles: “Stillness is Timeless”. “Spirals Within Thy Being”. “An Infinitesimal Spark.” Doesn't sound like Death Metal to me, even Melodic. I guess much of it will hinge on the vocals, and they are ... not quite happening yet. Two instrumental tracks to kick off, and now we're into the third but it has a long instrumental intro too, so I'm as yet none the wiser. Okay, now I am. Those are DM vocals, so now I don't know. But there are clean ones too. Well it's very technically proficient, with a lot of prog metal tropes, so maybe I'll just stop trying to categorise it and just listen to the music? Sounds like a plan, Batman.

Lot of keyboard on here, a lot more than I'd expect on any album with any sort of connection to Death Metal, and the structures of the songs are definitely more based on melody and meaning rather than aggression and power, so I'd be leaning in more a prog metal .... yeah, I know: I said I'd shut up about the genre, didn't I? Okay, I will. I like what I'm hearing so far anyway. There are as I say screeching vocals but a lot of the songs seem to have the clean vocals driving them. I'm really impressed with this, I must say. I think anyone who goes into this expecting a standard Death Metal (or even Melodic Death Metal) album will be disappointed, and perhaps confused, whereas a Progressive Metal fan will be a lot happier. I know I am.
