Silver Apples has an interesting history. Simeon Coxe actually built his own instrument out of oscillators and telegraph keys.

I've seen where you are looking for Avant-garde. I don't know if Pram really constitutes as Avant-garde band. I just like what I hear. Pram are simply amazing to me. Dead Piano is the first song off of their debut album. On their first album they are described as "Art Rock, Experimental, Leftfield, Avantgarde" and I even seen "Post-Punk." The band's sound develops throughout their history. When you get to the song Beluga Discog describes their style as "Leftfield, Abstract, & Downtempo." I am not sure if mentioning what style of music Pram play helps you in any way. I guess it gives a slight hint what to expect. If you hate them, sorry I did my best. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You might like this: a touch of the avant-garde here. Not your average female singer-songwriter stuff, and the Reaching For Indigo album overall was one of my favorites this year.

You can check out my Favorites Of 2017 thread if you want to see the whole review.

Hey, Mic. Where do you rate Melanie? Right now, I'm listening to her Candles in the Rain album and I have to say I really like it. It's a lot more than just Lay Down which turns out to be an eight minute jam. Anyway, she sounds similar to what you seem to be into so I guess I'm wondering what you think.

Assuming you're not talking about that Spice Girl, I'm not familiar with her

If you post a song, I'll check it out when I've cleared the rest of my backlog in this thread.

This is the long version of her biggest hit, Lay Down (Candles in the Rain)- 1970

I'm finally getting back to all the stuff you people have been throwing my way. I intend to catch up pretty quickly, but intentions are one thing, my laziness is another.

So I listened to your tracks, Nea, and I have to be honest. I'm sort of bored by this. It's very nice, but really almost too nice. I'm getting diabetes from how bright, airy, fluffy and cute this is. I'm not usually a proponent for avant garde, but I found myself wishing someone would crash the party with an atonal saxophone solo or something - just to shake things up a little.

I like a lot of "beautiful" music, but I've never really been able to appreciate "dream pop" and similar, inherently very cutesy indie pop variants. I just feel like there's something missing from the formula, to make it actually grab me. Some vitality, depth, detail, more insistend vocals or whatever else might have helped.

Just like with Nea's tracks above, I'm really missing a bit of bite when it comes to the first two tracks. It reminds me of the kind of thing my parents used to listen to way back, before their taste in music went to total **** (I demand that Ireland apologize for the existence of Derek Ryan).

The Rory Gallagher track is a bit more fun to listen to. He really gets busy with that slide guitar (sounds like that's what it is, anyway). If I ever make an 80's style action movie where a bar brawl suddenly breaks out, I'll have this track playing during the fight.
