honestly not as big a fan of El-P as a lot seem to be as well

Company Flow is ok, solo stuff is just fine, RTJ is cool but Killer Mike is better on his own

Also **** yes I like Lil B he's awesome.
It is inarguably absurd to prefer Lil B to El-P. Sorry for the confusion.

RTJ is more of a step into conventional territory for El, so I wouldn't expect you to get much out of it. C4C (as well as I'll Sleep When You're Dead) is really something else though.

I actually don't think that Funcrusher Plus has aged well though.

Everything I've heard from him even the more experimental stuff just seems woefully generic in its beat structures. The reason I like Lil B is because he sort of defines unconventionality in hip-hop.

I think his most experimental work would be Cannibal Ox only because it's pretty unmatched. El-P's innovation as a producer comes in the way that he layers his music in a dense way that ends up being both futuristic and lo-fi. He certainly utilizes a lot of hip hop roots though, so if you're not into that it can be difficult to appreciate.

I don't like him because his unconventionality has no value or thought behind it. And don't go on about how the dude is a secret genius, I think he's just a genuine idiot unsuccessfully trying to make a mainstream rap album. His best albums are like the last Metallica album where you're just surprised that it doesn't suck as much as you expected as opposed to actually being impressed with the music.

I'm sure that in 10 years RTJ will be the more poorly aged album of the two and I'll agree with you.

Maybe, but it just sounds so terribly aged.

And I completely disagree. Listen to Black Ken half of that is the Trout Mask Replica of 80's styled rap. It's just ****ing weird and he knows it's ****ing weird.
