Although there's a lot of great stuff from the Boz Burrell era (especially some very powerful live recordings), the fact that he sucked at playing bass always bugged me.

I was under the impression that King Crimson was always comprised of very technically top-notch musicians.

In what way do you think this guy sucked as a bass player?

He's a dude you know on the internet. He must somehow remind you of your soon-to-be ex-wife or there's no way you'd be able to summon this amount of vitriol.

Well to be fair, Frownland puts breadcrumbs in his hamburger patties.

He might have been the only exception.
He joined the band as a singer. Since the intended bass player dropped out short-term, the other guys quickly taught him how to play bass. Considering that, he was good enough, but his limitations are very noticeable, especially compared to KC's other, ridiculously virtuosic bassists.

Proof they didn’t know any black people.

Well then I get why you'd say he's not good. They can't have kept him on bass duty for long - or at least I feel like it would be weird if they did, since it seems like a sort of patchwork solution to an unforeseen problem.

About a teaspoonful for the whole batch, ja. They add moisture.

I just imagine him waking up in his winnebed and immediately screaming to the skies "Frownland is ****ing pretentious!" every day.

It's kind of hard to recommend their music since they **** on any videos on Youtube or even Spotify, but this is one of their best.

Insanely epic in every way possible. Especially considering it was released 45 years ago!

The only reason you consider the age is because it was your age. **** off with your self obsessed bull****. That song is awesome because it's awesome, not because you remember when the album was released.

Anteater 04-26-2018 10:42 PM

Hard to find a lot to legitimately criticize about King Crimson, but I thought Beat and Three Of A Perfect Pair were weak albums and John Wetton wasn't that great a singer.

**** me because I happened to be there when it first came out. I'm such a bastard child. **** me.

Lucem Ferre 04-26-2018 11:17 PM

The worst part about King Crimson is the possibility of them inspiring King Krimzon.

It's their fault for not putting their shit online. Can't be bothered to buy or steal it, so fuck em.

grindy 04-27-2018 03:01 AM

Keep on missing out on a top 5 GOAT band then, I suppose.

galt54 04-27-2018 04:27 AM

To the best of my knowledge the only King Crimson LP with consistently good melodies was their first one. That LP is the only one by King Crimson that I really like a lot.

Lots of King Crimson´s "music" just sucks in my mind´s eye because it is mere noise to my ears.

MicShazam 04-27-2018 04:55 AM

I haven't found anything I've heard from this band offensive, but it just kinda doesn't grab me. Prog as usual, but at least a little less corny.

Title tracks of Crimson King and Lark's Tongue, as well as "Starless".

You should listen to the full albums imo, they're well-constructed and diverse. Starless makes up for it at the end, but like I mentioned before it's too drawn out. You might like their more new wave stuff from Three of a Perfect Pair or Discipline.

grindy 04-27-2018 09:39 AM

Bull****. The first part of Starless is beautiful. The end is the orgasmic payoff but the beginning is fantastic foreplay.

It's pleasant, sure. I just don't care about it at all though. Beautiful music is for normies.

I just took a look on Allmusic and their discography is a LOT bigger than I thought.

Youtube is a bit shakey in the full albums department. It's seemingly only a smattering of playlists, which may or may not actually be complete - depending on possible copyright strikes, etc.

I'm curious about some of their newer stuff, since I have no idea of their stylistic span and changes over time.

The only confirmed full album I found!
