What Sucks About This Artist? King Crimson

If I have to tell you who King Crimson is, you should really reconsider how you've been spending your life. Anyway, what sucks about em?

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 04-26-2018 08:56 AM

everything ive heard from them has been fan-****ing-tastic so im gonna pass

Frownland 04-26-2018 08:59 AM

I think that the slow intro to Starless could've been cut without maiming the song.

More of a fault of their marketing/fanbase, but I wish people knew about more than Court of the Crimson King.

That's about it though. I used to think that Fripp was an overrated guitarist before I realized that he's an understated monster.

OccultHawk 04-26-2018 09:07 AM

They don’t exist.

Ol’ Qwerty Bastard 04-26-2018 09:13 AM

yeah i guess you could say it sucks that their catalogue gets hidden behind one behemoth of an album

like dont get me wrong CotCK is great but it’s also a bangin’ introduction to a world full of awesome weird ass tunes

Ninetales 04-26-2018 09:39 AM

COTCK is corny as hell

grindy 04-26-2018 09:41 AM

I'll have to think about that one for a while.

grindy 04-26-2018 09:43 AM

Oh right: Matte Kudasai.
It's not bad but a bit boring and lame and disrupts the flow of every 80s concert of theirs.

I'll assume that this is from the perspective of corn being the most epic thing that you've ever tasted.

Janszoon 04-26-2018 09:58 AM

I'm most familiar with Discipline and that only has one good song on it. Don't know if that applies to their whole catalog, but that's certainly what sucks about that album.

Have you heard Lark's Tongue in Aspic or Red? I mean eff off for hatin on Discipline obviously but their earlier stuff had a different sound.

The Batlord 04-26-2018 10:01 AM

Uh... I guess I'm not too high off of the three albums between ITCOTCK and Larks' Tongues in Aspic cause they remind me too much of the kind of prog rock noodling that I don't dig. Of course it's been years since I tried them so I'm just remembering that I didn't like them.

see "epic" is typically a descriptor reserved for music that I don't care much for, so I'm fine with this

From an Iron Maiden fan sure but I also use the term for ambient music that can blow your hair back so...

Chula Vista 04-26-2018 11:15 AM

Nothing. Nada. Zilch. Love everything by them. If I had to pick my favorite incarnation of the band it would be the three albums with Fripp, Bruford, Levin, and Belew.

MicShazam 04-26-2018 11:50 AM

Those retard old***s aren't even on Spotify and they get their stuff removed from Youtube.

Court of the Crimson King has a terrible album cover. I've always hated it.

Fripp is a weird dude.....

Seriously it's bull****. Do those idiots honestly think that they'll make more money keeping their music obscure than they will allowing nerds to check them out for free? They're not Pink Floyd and need all the exposure they can get. I was just trying to listen to Larks' Tongues in Aspic on Youtube last night and remembering that I'll need to steal their music. Good job, dumbasses.

Fripp (who IS King Crimson) has a net worth of $10 million. Pretty sure he doesn't give a rat's ass.

Frownland 04-26-2018 12:42 PM

Still bull**** senor.

How the **** does he have that much money when nobody cares about King Crimson but music nerds? I'll bet he made it all from that Kanye sample of "20th Century Schizoid Man".

I have not heard either of those. I'll check them out at some point.

Robert Fripp (born 16 May 1946) is an English guitarist, composer and record producer. As a guitarist for the progressive rock band King Crimson, Fripp has been the only member to have played in all of King Crimson's line-ups from their inception in the late 1960s to the present. He has also worked extensively as a studio musician, notably with singer David Bowie on the albums "Heroes", Scary Monsters, and Super Creeps, Brian Eno, David Sylvian and contributed sounds to the Windows Vista operating system. His complete discography lists more than seven hundred releases over four decades.

I'd imagine a lot of that money comes from guesting on songs by musicians who've moved a lot of units.

You really should. I don't even really dig prog, but Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Starless and Bible Black, and Red are the kind of wildly inventive and bizarre albums that prog rock should be about and not ****ty Genesis worship. I don't even know how much I like prog as a genre, but those albums make me believe that it's not just all bull**** noodling.

Makes sense. I guess being a studio musician is a far more lucrative field than I ever guessed. Maybe Devin Townsend is making more money than I figured since he produces so many albums.

I imagine his point was that stifling streaming is not what a musician who wants their music to be heard should do, unless they're just money grubbing whores with no vision of what music distribution has become.

OccultHawk 04-26-2018 01:26 PM

Fripp killed Grooveshark so he too should die.

Single-handedly? I remember Grooveshark. It was one of my main ways to get music when I was still using library computers. I miss it more for nostalgia than actually missing it though.

OccultHawk 04-26-2018 01:37 PM

Grooveshark was awesome.

The Batlord 04-26-2018 01:41 PM

I remember it being a bootleg Spotify that had no app to make it internet or CPU intensive. One of the reasons I never liked Spotify is because it was always jenky on my computers.

If you searched for music it generally had it. That was enough for me to love it. I've never worried about streaming sites giving me recs so Grooveshark not doing so was never a concern. It just gave me the music I asked it to. That was enough.

I’ve never used Spotify on anything besides my phone.

Chula Vista 04-26-2018 01:51 PM

Last person on earth I'd want to sit down and have dinner with:

Robert Fripp

(Christophe, he edged you out by a nose.)

grindy 04-26-2018 01:52 PM

The double trio line-up was pretty underwhelming.
Still very cool but it's probably my least favourite incarnation.
They could have done much more with it.

There were plenty of instances where I couldn't find an artist on Grooveshark and twice as many instances where the titling for albums, artists, and songs as well as the song ordering was....avant-garde.

You'll get over whatever it is that you're mad about one of these days.

MicShazam 04-26-2018 02:13 PM

If I published music and had a fanbase, I'd want my music to be available in every avenue where my fans wanted to hear it. Want it on Spotify, Tidal and iTunes? You got it. Want it on vinyl, CD and tape? If economically feasible, you got it.

I'd just want my music to be heard and not argue with how people want to listen to their music.
