He does damn good gangsta rap and can murder a hardcore track like possibly no other rapper before or since, but that's kind of his only wheelhouse. His slow songs are tedious, I remember his conscious rap being likewise, even when he tries a more personal track it's always gotta be in the corny Thug Life context, and if he didn't have the East Coast/West Coast rivalry to put a fire under his ass he probably would never have been half as good or popular as he got.

Lack of sincerity and authenticity

He dead.

Everything. Never understood what's supposed to be so great about him.
I guess it's that he died early and wrote songs about teenage angst and depression. Now the glam rap scene that he helped kill had some real technical chops and killer flows.

Totes but that's not really something I care about. It's gangsta rap. 99% of the rappers probably never met a drive-by they didn't piss themselves over. The dude can sell the aggression though. "Hail Mary" is possibly the most threatening hip hop song of all-time.

He's totally full of **** though. I think this is the interview I saw with him sounding soft as **** and talking about respecting women. But even Dr. Dre was ragging on weed on Straight Out of Compton so it is what it is.

Engaging, talented, interesting, whatever you want to call it. And I don't even care about Biggie.
