What Sucks about this Artist?: 2Pac

He does damn good gangsta rap and can murder a hardcore track like possibly no other rapper before or since, but that's kind of his only wheelhouse. His slow songs are tedious, I remember his conscious rap being likewise, even when he tries a more personal track it's always gotta be in the corny Thug Life context, and if he didn't have the East Coast/West Coast rivalry to put a fire under his ass he probably would never have been half as good or popular as he got.

OccultHawk 04-26-2018 10:09 AM

Lack of sincerity and authenticity

Frownland 04-26-2018 10:10 AM

He dead.

grindy 04-26-2018 10:11 AM

Everything. Never understood what's supposed to be so great about him.
I guess it's that he died early and wrote songs about teenage angst and depression. Now the glam rap scene that he helped kill had some real technical chops and killer flows.

Totes but that's not really something I care about. It's gangsta rap. 99% of the rappers probably never met a drive-by they didn't piss themselves over. The dude can sell the aggression though. "Hail Mary" is possibly the most threatening hip hop song of all-time.

He's totally full of **** though. I think this is the interview I saw with him sounding soft as **** and talking about respecting women. But even Dr. Dre was ragging on weed on Straight Out of Compton so it is what it is.

Engaging, talented, interesting, whatever you want to call it. And I don't even care about Biggie.

To paraphrase 2 Live Crew

“He’s soft and he knows that we know it
He tries to hide but can’t help but show it”

OccultHawk 04-26-2018 10:50 AM

Biggie is and always will be the hip hop GOAT

The game is over...

If you don’t know now you know

You should do a top 10 of your fav rappers in your journal. You don't talk about much hip hop and I'd be interested in seeing you go into some actual depth.

You need to go on a hip hop meditation retreat

Modern white hipsters have become racist to 90s negro hip hop.

Frownland 04-26-2018 11:47 AM

No what you have to do is forget everything that you know about hip hop then learn about it through early people like Biggie on a road trip with Jenny where you get lost and wind up in New Mexico just like OH.

Close but you’re forgetting how old I am.

Frownland 04-26-2018 11:52 AM

I didn't forget, I based it on how you treat it. It's why I brought Kendrick up btw, since younger generations will likely give him similar lip service to what Biggie gets in the future if not already.

This is pretty much where I stand on 2Pac.

You driftin out of your lane, son.

Frownland 04-26-2018 12:05 PM

You don't think he'll get the same kind of rep from this generation as Biggie gets right now? I don't think I'm the one who's swervin

Black Francis 04-26-2018 12:09 PM

Can't trust a shady ass nigga like 2pac. Don't likem

But don't this track make you wanna kill a muthafukka? He ain't brilliant but if he'd gone straight up horrorcore he could have been the best. I desperately want to know how 2Pac would have rapped about cannibalism and eating human liver with fava beans and a nice Chianti.

to be fair biggie would be deserving of his recognition if hip hop ceased to exist after ready to die was released

but it didn’t, a hundreds of better artists have shown face since then.

Im sure he has a line in some some song about roasting biggie like a pig and eating him cause if not, he aint that good of a lyricist.

That's a good song and not gonna lie, he has some good tracks but this

Ignore the hype. Just take him as a guy who can make a quality aggressive track that sounds like he wants to commit a bad act. I'd honestly rather listen to him on a playlist of all his hardcore tracks than as an album artist. He's basically if Slayer thought they could be diverse enough to make non-metal songs. Nobody wants that but they'd still make quality Slayer songs cause they're Slayer.

OccultHawk 04-26-2018 01:40 PM

I think you must have had some kind of drugged up experience where you got caught up in Tupac and it left you thinking he sounds way more badass than he really does.

Hell nah, dude. Tell me this doesn't get you hyped. Then I'll beat you to death while listening to it. Clearly it helps that he got some of the nicest Death Row production ever, but he could still murder that **** like no other.

Slalom 04-26-2018 01:51 PM

Nah,you guys are deaf.Tupac and Biggie are the real deal.

That production style was ripped off from Three 6 Mafia

I have never heard Three 6 Mafia kill a track like that. They simply weren't on the level to make a track like that. And I like Three 6. Like I said, 2Pac could kill a hardcore track like none other.
