Frown Vs Chula as Guitarists

Forget personality

Who’s a better guitarist?

Akai 04-27-2018 09:04 AM

Never heard either of em play.

OccultHawk 04-27-2018 09:09 AM

http://donniebshawn.com/Stream%20of%20Cous%20Cous.mp3

That’s Chula

Frownland 04-27-2018 09:09 AM

Frown: https://jesusthecarpenter.bandcamp.com/ and https://deafbox.bandcamp.com/

Chula: https://memyselfi5.bandcamp.com/

OccultHawk 04-27-2018 09:10 AM

And we’re off!!!

Akai 04-27-2018 09:12 AM

Not gonna presume to say who is 'better' but chula' more my style after hearing a snippet, man I'm a sucker for Carvin and indulgence.

Frownland 04-27-2018 09:18 AM

I can't deny that this is a good track and he's well-practiced on the penatonic noodling. Everything else I've heard has been either forgettable, cliched, or cringey.

https://memyselfi5.bandcamp.com/track/paris

I'm a more emotive player with more diversity in my playing styles which I find more interesting, plus I can carry a song better and my mom says that I'm handsome. I'm lazy on a lot of fronts though. Still, I think I'll vote Frown.

team chula

grindy 04-27-2018 09:29 AM

I want to hear pop stuff from Frown and experimental stuff from Chula before I vote. Get on it, bitches.

OccultHawk 04-27-2018 09:33 AM

Play us a ballad Frowny!

(he’s got this, he’s a student of Joe Pass)

Frownland 04-27-2018 09:34 AM

Joe Pass wishes he could be me tbh.

Is this pop? https://thebeatloads.bandcamp.com/track/landing

The people demand it!

OccultHawk 04-27-2018 09:41 AM

Chula has some experimental stuff

At least one I heard

But can Frown construct something accessible to the mainstream ear...

that has yet to be proven

grindy 04-27-2018 09:48 AM

Inb4 Frown's lame excuses.

Trollheart 04-27-2018 09:49 AM

Plankton is better than both of you.

#PlanktonGuitarGod

Frownland 04-27-2018 09:50 AM

I'd consider this accessible: https://jesusthecarpenter.bandcamp.c...en-spirit-raga. I have the nifty lame excuse of not aiming for accessibility on account of not being a prostitute.

Keep Plankton out of this. It would make things too easy.

The Chula vs Frown question is more of a mind bender.

It is some damn fine American Primitivism a la Fahey and Basho

I forgot about that

But don’t get defensive Frown, it’s unbecoming

Frownland 04-27-2018 09:55 AM

We are all prostitutes except me.

Translation: I don't know how to make hooks, just noodle with no editing.

It’s not just noodling. He’s exploring a modal theme and provides the listener with tension and release. Plus it has an arc.

Blah blah blah he couldn't make a three minute pop song of any kind if his life depended on it.

I wanna see a picture of bigfoot. Until then I remain skeptical.

I'm offended for not being included.

I didn’t say he could. I’m just saying that’s not just noodling.

Frownland 04-27-2018 10:11 AM

If y'all get me a sweet drumpad I'll take on pop.

MicShazam 04-27-2018 10:12 AM

"Don Meets Ke$ha" settles it for me until Frown brings some shamelessly catchy pop trash/gold.

Tbf do we have any examples of Chula laying out a solid verse or a section that segues into a chorus or hook or catchy b section?

I feel like this should be turned into a 1 month contest with rigorous testing in a variety of categories.

Cool. Get me a sweet drumpad and I'll take on pop. Until then, I'll continue with my interests.

Makes experimental music. Won't experiment with non-experimental genres.

Like pop? Defo, I'm not a big fan to begin with so it's only logical.

Check out the whole site. That's the one I use because I like the set-up.

grindy 04-27-2018 10:34 AM

List of people who are lame bores:
1. People who only enjoy pop and don't like experimental stuff
2. People who only enjoy expermental stuff and don't like pop
