Tin Machine, guys? Yea or nay? Do I include those two albums on just move on?

In my eyes, they basically sound like Bowie albums and they're part of his development as an artist. Worth noting that apparently only the first of those two albums is on Spotify.

I vote them in.

By the end of this week we'll be done with all the Bowie albums. Though some have engendered less debate and interest than I would have hoped, there has been decent discussion, and I wonder if anyone is interested in doing another of these, and if so, what artist would you suggest? Let me know if anyone's bothered.

MicShazam 06-11-2018 12:03 PM

I'd totally do another.

It's been interesting for me, since I didn't really know much about his music except his hit songs and a few albums. If we're doing another, I feel like it should be someone with a fair amount of variety in the discography - otherwise the albums would blur together after a while for those who don't know the artist in question already.

Just a few ideas for artists I'd probably have fun with going through in the same manner:

- Michael Jackson
- Depeche Mode
- Bob Dylan (I was going to try and get into his music anyway, so...)
- Kate Bush
- PJ Harvey
- Roxy Music and / or Bryan Ferry
- Prince (I don't know... he's got soooo many albums...)
- Radiohead
- Beck (I don't know much about him, but... why not?)

Kate Bush would be good. P has got way too many albums and also there wouldn't be many guys on here that would be interested.

Radiohead, Velvet Underground, Beatles, Outkast, Madonna

Decent shouts because there aren't too many albums in these discographies like with Bowie and most of the forum will be familiar with them all. I was going to include Wu Tang but there are too many albums if we include solo releases.

Trollheart 06-11-2018 12:16 PM

Some good shouts indeed. Kate would be one of my picks, though I did do her discography not that long ago in my journal (or maybe I just started it; can't remember). Prince would be good too. I wouldn't be too interested in Jackson - can see most/all of his stuff being quite similar. I'd be into doing Springsteen, though I doubt anyone else would, Waits or maybe Johnny Cash.

Anyway, let's open up a new thread and see what shakes loose. I'll post these suggestions in it and we can see who's interested if anyone other than us.

Yeah, I know that if people don't know these albums already, it's not happening.

I probably wouldn't want to put time into getting familiar with all Velvet Underground, Outkast, Beatles and Madonna albums tbh.

Cuthbert 06-11-2018 12:22 PM

VU only have five
Outkast have six

Though I guess if you haven't heard any of them it might seem like a chore. But then maybe that's the point of these things, discovering new music.

That shouldn't actually be true though. The idea is, first and foremost, to generate music discussion, primarily of course around the artist in question, but also to allow people the chance to listen to albums by that artist they may never have heard. I've heard of nothing of Bowie's output from the 90s or early 21st century, so I'm glad to be able to have an excuse, as it were, now to listen to them.

Anyway, I've opened a new thread so let's have any further discussion there. Thanks.

The VU would be cool but it would involve listening to the godawful Yule albums.

Hard pass on most of these tbh.
