Feels like a collection of novelty tunes.

There's a basic well constructed-ness to these songs, but they mostly feel paper thin and sort of daft. Very little here feels like anything I could possibly take seriously. "Rubber Band" is one example of what happens when this album hits rock bottom. Pretty close to terrible.

It's amazing how mature his voice sounds here though. He must have been very young, but sounds the same as he did 10-20 years later.

I'm gonna rate this thing in relation to the rest of his discography, with 1's just being the worst he's made - not flat out terrible albums in general. Since I'm no Bowie fan, it's going to have to largely be based on expectations this early in his discography. This HAS to be one of the lowest points of his career, so it's a 1 from me.

It's one of the better tracks in the album imo along with Sell me a Coat and I live my Dream but the one i actually liked enough to save to a playlist was Little Bombardier.

This is pretty good for a 1st album but it sounds a bit like a mess of his influences and his vocal stylings and corny narrative sometimes ruined the songs for me (exmpl: There is a happy land). Instrumentally i think this album is solid but honestly i only got 2 songs from the album i really liked, the rest I'll probably never listen to again.

2/10

Okay, I'm bumping this because I have to start from the beginning. I think I mentioned this one in my now defunct journal, but basically the album sucks. I think it was said he was trying to be Anthony Newley or some sort of British balladeer of sorts. About the only quality track that sounds like the Bowie we would come to love is We Are Hungry Men. Other than that, well, yeech!

2/10

PS- Did anyone review Bowie's mid sixties material? That stuff is as mod as the Kinks. It's great stuff
