Default MicShazam's Spotify Journey

Since I kind of enjoy checking out albums and giving my thoughts on them, like with the album club and the metal album and Bowie album offshoots, I thought it would be nice to give myself some more to do in a similar way.
I use Spotify a lot to explore music these days and I find it super useful, so I've come up an idea that takes advantage of the discoverability on that platform.
I'm simply going to pick random albums by clicking around until I find something with a cool cover/name. Then I'm going to listen to it and write whatever much or little I feel like and give a score out of 10.

Pretty simple.

Sometimes, I might decide to do some classic albums from artists that I'm not really a fan of. God knows there's a ton of albums that I "should" care about, but don't.
Suggestions are fine as well. It's not really the method for album selection that matters.

Taking a cue from Trollheart, I chose to not do make this a journal, so that others can more easily post and tell me what a clueless plebian I am if they feel like it

First album choice
Using the automatically generated "your daily mix" feature on Spotify, I have picked the St. Vincent album Masseduction as the first album I'll go through. Spotify seems to think that I would appreciate it, so I'll give it a go. I happen to know that it's her latest album, but I can't actually remember what St. Vincent's music sounds like at all. Allthough I strongly suspect she's an electric guitar player. Maybe a bit PJ Harvey-ish? Hmm... no, I guess I'll find out.

St. Vincent - Masseduction

This album was released just last year and I remember it receiving praise, but I've never really listened to St. Vincent and I didn't check this album out either.

Good thing I remedied that. This album is awesome!

This album is loaded with fun, edgy pop songs. The songs are good, punchy, catchy and interesting.

There's a good deal of variety on the album as well. The songs somehow fit together in style really well, but take various angles of approach, so that the result is a both very cohesive and varied album.

I'm not sure what the best comparisons would be, for what this album sounds like, but I don't recall hearing any pop album that really sounded much like this.

A few favorite tunes off the album: "Sugarboy", "Savior", "Fear the Future", "Pills".

EDIT: Forgot I was supposed to give a rating. So far this album strikes me as a solid 8/10.

Time to pick the next album: I look under "Discover Weekly" on Spotify, and Grace Jones is at the top of the list. Then, I go to allmusic.com and see what the first really highly rated album of hers is. Warm Leatherrette is the first album to hit 4.5 out of 5. No album of hers hits 5.0, so this is the album I'm going with. I don't think I've ever even heard a single full song by Grace Jones, but I've always been fascinated by her look. There might even be a picture or two of her in some of all those photography collections I have on one of my book shelves.

I'm actually excited about this one. Who knows what it will sound like! I sure don't.

You've probably heard this one...

Side note: Grace Jones was in one of the Conan movies!

I don't recognize the song you posted, but I do recognize that scene from Conan.

Two things I'm thinking:

1) That it's odd that I didn't connect the dots and realize that's her long ago.
2) That Conan The Barbarian is an awesome movie that I need to watch again.

Then my work here is done.
She's in the sequel though, Conan the Destroyer. Two good movies for sure. Oh yeah, she did a Roxy number too!
