May cause morning hair and bad makeup jobs.

Trollheart 06-13-2018 08:07 AM

And after them, we can do the full discography of The Disease.

but we're talking 5 albums deep before you hit anything that's not damn near perfect

Scanning over their discography I only found three records that I don’t have a very favorable impression of and those are the only three I’m not familiar with.

When Kiss Me came out I was like “no” but in hindsight I love it.

MicShazam 06-13-2018 12:33 PM

I tried getting into the Cure several years ago, and it didn't happen. This is a second chance and I'm excited to see where it will go when I'm forcing myself to listen to all of their music. One thing I know for sure: "A Forest" is an awesome song. Got somewhat big expectations for whatever albums that one is from.

I'm not necessarily dead set against Joy Division. A lot of my attitudes about various rock bands were formed several years ago when I checked out a lot of bands to try and find my way.
These days, I'm often surprised when I go back and give something a fresh try.

MicShazam 06-14-2018 11:06 AM

Yes. Give Trollheart a while to get back on his horse, he's the captain of this ship. I love a good mixed metaphor.

Yeah. Bowie will be done by the end of this week. I don't want to put too much on people's plates (especially mine) so we'll begin with The Cure (which seems to have been agreed on, yes?) on Monday. You're of course free to go listen to the albums before that if you want, but the official thread won't begin till then.

Frownland 06-14-2018 01:20 PM

The VU

MicShazam 06-14-2018 01:38 PM

The Cure! For the love of God, the Cure. Literally anything but VU. If we're ever doing VU, I'm skipping it.

Frownland 06-14-2018 01:43 PM

The VU - 3
The Cure - 2 probably
Anything but The VU - 1

The VU - 7
The Cure - 6

Then I put 12 votes on ABBA.

Chula Vista 06-14-2018 02:49 PM

Add me to the Cure list.

Yeah, it was only between VU and Cure, sorry. Other votes didn't matter, and since you were the only one who voted for ELO, by association, you don't matter. Sorry to break it to you this way, man, but someone had to tell you.

And that makes 7. Post will be updated, well, now I guess.

Trollheart 06-14-2018 02:54 PM

Oh, it should be noted: these polls won't close in seven days as I said, so even if we're looking at one album thread per day, it won't really matter as you can take your time getting involved in each. To some extent, I guess **** the vote really: we just want to get conversations going, so sharpen those knives!

Frownland 06-14-2018 02:58 PM

So because the polls don't close, posting several new threads a week won't saturate the forum? Hmm...

MicShazam 06-14-2018 03:01 PM

It's not like there's all that much music discussion going on at MB in any case. I only wish there was a saturation problem.

Frownland 06-14-2018 03:02 PM

High volume=/=saturation

Saturation implies that it loses meaning. I could go either way on this one though, it's not like TH is actually going to consider adapting rules he arbitrarily chose.

MicShazam 06-14-2018 03:03 PM

You gotta have a high enough volume of salt to saturate a glass of water, though.

True. It's an easy 1/5.

I'm more about IV but they're not really different songs.

Also Future Bible Heroes.

And I vote for VU. Meanwhile, I'm curious if we can individually start our own artist threads (I'm asking Troll this). If I had come on in a more timely fashion, I would have pushed the Beatles. I also liked WW's suggestion of Elliot Smith. Also, a Cure fan can start a thread if they lose out on this poll (or VU for that matter).

And why didn't anyone mention the Rolling Stones? :yikes:

I'd say best to leave it to me. We only want one artist at a time, and the guys will tell you I've been running the Bowie and Metal Classics ones, and they've been going okay. It might get confusing if everyone starts opening their own threads, would be my thought on it.

I agree. If we get any more of these going, it's just going to cause half of them to get ignored.

The main problem I have with the idea, and I'm not suggesting it would happen with one Rubber Soul would open, but I could see people thinking "Oh I'll start a [insert artist here] thread, that'd be cool" and then quickly losing interest and letting the thread die. It's easy to start a thread, but they need to be policed and maintained, so yeah, chaos might result if everyone started their own threads, and most of those might end up not getting much in the way of replies. We've all agreed (mostly) on the Cure followed by VU, so we know that at least some people will be interested in those.

tl;dr: if anyone's gonna clog up the forum with threads, it'll be me. :D

rubber soul 06-16-2018 09:46 AM

It would probably have to be an artist a decent number of people would be interested in. (Beatles-yes, Elliott Smith- probably not). That would improve the chances of more member involvement.

But I'm cool with Trolls running the show :)

MicShazam 06-16-2018 09:48 AM

We'll probably end up at The Beatles eventually if Trollheart manages to keep the ball rolling.
