Interest check: MB Artist Classics?

As mentioned in the Bowie Classics thread, we've had a lot of fun with his albums and we are now coming to the end, so I wondered if anyone was interested in repeating this with other artists? Hopefully not stepping on Blank's toes here, but then these would all be discographies from one artist, not separate albums. Suggestions so far include:

ABBA
The Beastie Boys
The Beatles
Beck
Brian Jonestown Massacre
Kate Bush
Johnny Cash
The Clash
The Cure
Death
Death Grips
Depeche Mode
Bob Dylan
Gorguts
PJ Harvey
Michael Jackson
Madonna
Magnetic Fields
Willie Nelson
New Order
Outkast
Prince
Queens of the Stone Age
Radiohead
Roxy Music (Incl. Bryan Ferry solo)
Slayer
The Smiths
Elliott Smith
Regina Spektor
Bruce Springsteen
The Stooges
Talking Heads
A Tribe Called Quest
Velvet Underground
Kurt Vile
Tom Waits
Stevie Wonder

Any others? Anyone want to do this? More suggestions welcome, or tell me which of the above list you're interested in.

MicShazam 06-11-2018 12:27 PM

I'm probably in - somewhat depending on who we're doing. I don't mind listening to a lot of albums again, as long as it's an artist that I'm curious about at all.

Cuthbert 06-11-2018 12:28 PM

Jesus the Carpenter
The Clash
ABBA
QOTSA

Pretty on board with these except the obvious one.

Trollheart 06-11-2018 12:34 PM

I guess all we have to do is a) figure out how many people are actually interested (there weren't, rather surprisingly, that many into the Bowie threads, but it still more or less worked: I'd say 4-6 people is a good target) and b) who we want to do first. There's no problem (from my side anyway) doing a slew of artists, one at a time, so no need to discount anyone (except Our Saviour of course) as we can come back to them later.

So of the list drawn up, who stands out to anyone? As I said in the Bowie thread, I'd be for Kate, but also maybe The Clash, which sounds like it could be interesting, the Man in Black or the Boss. But it's not about me: who do you guys want to do first?

I could definitely go for those. So is that three votes for them? Does anyone want to start with either/or?

Upvote.

Death Grips
Slayer
The Stooges
Gorguts
Death

I'd say King Crimson but their stuff is a bitch to find and it's a huge discog.

MicShazam 06-11-2018 10:52 PM

I couldn't possible say something different about 10+ slayer albums. They all get a 3. There. Done.

Lol exact opposite for me. Radiohead is tepid garbage, get with the program or Morrissey's gonna kick you out.

Trollheart 06-12-2018 05:52 PM

It's only Tuesday and I'm thinking we wait till we complete the Bowie discog before kicking another artist off, but I'm kind of leaning towards either The Cure or The Smiths. Votes for either, or any other choices for the first artist we do?

Also, the plan is to do as we are with Bowie, one album per day, but the polls won't close (maybe at all) so there's no hurry to do each album as it comes up. It just keeps the interest for those who are, well, interested enough in the artist, rather than take a week on each album, and it also helps hurry up the queue so that we're not, like me, old and grey by the time we get to the tenth or so artist.

Everyone ok with that?

Frownland 06-12-2018 05:53 PM

The VU

Also to avoid saturation maybe we should do every other day.

OccultHawk 06-12-2018 07:02 PM

Did anyone else find going through the bowels of Bowie’s mediocrity depressing?

I’d rather pretend some of those records didn’t exist. It’s like going over old times- you’re supposed to gloss over the bad stuff

Akai 06-12-2018 07:08 PM

Tribe.

I like both but I vote for the cure just because too much cure >>>> too much moz

Moz ruined a-sexuality for everyone. Screw his music. That'll be his legacy.

I've got no complaints about this plan.

Although Frownland does have a point. One album per day is a bit much if you're not very familiar with the artist in question.

While I wasn't super familiar with his discography beforehand - going through all of this certainly made Bowie seem more like a guy who was just willing to throw caution to the wind and try stuff out, rather than a musical genius.

Same here. I'd forgotten how forgettable most of his post-70's albums are. :D

Trollheart 06-13-2018 06:56 AM

So we seem to be leaning towards The Cure at the moment, yes?

MicShazam 06-13-2018 07:38 AM

No objections there.

Trollheart 06-13-2018 07:47 AM

Good for what ails ya! :D
