Default MB Bowie Classics: "Reality"

Bowie's last album for, at that point, another ten years. There were releases of live material, including one seven years later which features the music from this album, but in terms of actual new studio recordings, that wouldn't happen again until 2013. And sadly, we all know that was to be his penultimate album.

It is, but my brother tells me the album is really good, so I'm looking forward to hearing it for the first time ever.

Better wrongish than wrong.

I voted 5 on the previous album, so it seems likely I'd be on board with this one as well, but no guarantees.

Yeah, another great album. Two more covers, though his version of "Pablo Picasso", though not as acerbic nor funny as Jonathan Richman's original, has real legs. "Never Get Old" (sadly true), "The Loneliest Guy", "Days", "Fall Dog Bombs the Moon" (excuse me?) all classics. Again, the cover of Harrison's "Try Some, Buy Some" seems very much out of time, but it's a small niggle which can't prevent this getting another 5/5.

The songs are generally very memorable. I like how Bowie's voice has aged like a good red wine. The instrumentation is varied and sonically diverse. Sound quality super clear and rich (to my ears anyway). There's so many songs on here that I really like. They're all new to me, but I feel like over half of the album is going to become some of my favorite Bowie tunes.

Ugly cover artwork aside, an easy 5/5.

Not bland and boring like his previous album but, unfortunately, just as forgettable.

2/5

Not quite as good as Heathen but good enough to rate a four. Bowie definitely is trying to get back to what made him so great in the beginning. Some of the tracks are quite clever though I think I disagree with Trolls on both the covers. I didn't like Pablo Picasso but Try Some Buy Some is one of his better covers, imo. Favorite songs are Loneliest Guy, Try Some Buy Some, and Better Way. Again, a slight step down from Heathen but still a pretty decent album.

7/10 (The Word has spoken and he's almost caught up )
