Really, any great band has likely spawned a lot of imitator crap. How many bands try to sound like the Rolling Stones or Velvet Underground? How many are actually good? The Beatles pretty much spawned the Power Pop movement and there are some godawful bands in that genre.

Mr. Bungle. Love them, but I think a lot of untalented people took ideas from their self-titled album and formed them into horrible things like nu metal and Psychopathic Records.
