Surely this would be anything but boring?

As a rule I don't watch black men having sex.

I've noticed this album showing up sooo many places last year when I was searching for music. Somehow I never bothered checking it out, but I assumed it was some hard edged hip hop in the vein of MF Doom or something. Instead, it's a load of nice, smooth and mostly very boring modern alternative soul/R&B.

Gotta agree with Frown that it kind of ends up feeling like background filler.

Some nice production stuff going on here and there. Definitely some keyboard settings I'd love to steal showing up here and there but... yawn.

^ That's pretty much my take on this as well. It sounded to me like Weather Report crossed with Frank Zappa's least interesting jazz/funk forays from the 1980's. It started out reasonably well but I quickly lost interest and was feeling bored after getting a few minutes into it. A bland jazz/funk smoothie.

4/10

This is the second time I've heard this and I didn't make it to the end because I was tired of eating bland gruel. If there's good **** in the last 4 or 5 songs, let me know. If you want neo-soul that manages to be interesting and emotive (aka soulful), check out Haitus Kaiyote. Leave this garbage in the gutter. Voted disliked it. I've heard that he's good live and I'm inclined to believe that. Some people just aren't made for albums.
I thumbed through Drunk and was impressed by the production and vibe, but yeah it's a bit lifeless, then I checked out Haitus and wow. Spot on write up. Good call and thanks.

Drunk would have been a stronger album if Thundercat had focused in on 5 to 8 singleworthy cuts and maybe threw in a longer suite near the tail-end. The overall vibe and production is great: I just think the format here was a misstep.

I nominated this album as i was listening to it and i had a good first impression of it. Thought it was neat proggy r&b album and i still like some jams from it but yeah around midthrough it got a little boring. Also liked the humor in it, especially in tokyo when he says "Goku ****ing ruined me".

Fav tracks were "Fans mail" "lava lamp" and "Them changes"

Liked it and rate it 6/10
