I am talking about Frownland's and OcculthHawk's reception of your Jazz album. We can all laugh at it now, now that it's over.

For the record, I still think it's good. Especially the opening track.

FTR if you gave the record to Frown and Hawk they would use it as a frisbie.

I wouldn't give a record to those people. They wouldn't appreciate it unless it sounded like a cat being raped by a rusty plane engine.

First track blows but there's some okay ideas here and there on others. Might give it a better listen later.

I've probably discovered more good **** at MB than I have any where else on the internet. But that's just me. Including member albums.

I'm actually not joking. It's a tepid vocal jazz slog that comes off as sterile because the music focuses on imitation over genuine emotion or personal expression.

Don't be too sure. After all, I got the rec from someone who's been into jazz for twice as long as you and has written several books about jazz. He put it in his "100 best albums of the year" (all genres) list on his website.

But then again, maybe you'd be right. Ask me in 10-30 years and we can settle an eventual bet.

I've found some pretty diverse and cool things by going through his end-of-the-year lists.

This is *real* jazz ftr. You should tell your buddy about it.

They're both real jazz IMO, just trying to achieve different goals. For example, I love Pharaoh Sanders and David Sanborn, but the latter goes more toward pop stuff while the former sticks to more spiritual, funky excursions. And then there are guys like Sadao Watanabe who have swung between both extremes.

It doesn't have to be one or the other though.

And I'm always checking things out, so it's not like I'm done exploring jazz in any way.
But currently (small steps), the most complex jazz CD I have is probably still that Kendrick Scott Oracle album.

I find it easily worth keeping up with. Some misses, but enough hits to more than make up for it. I'm looking forward to checking the new albums out each month.
