Choose Another Member's Desert Island Mix

it's kinda like that other thread with just 4 artists, but also not really. Compile a top 10 albums for another member to be stranded with, and see how they feel about it. It's not really just listing their ten favorites, but obviously some would be thrown in for the castaway experience, though more like a mix to consider and go "hm interesting choice, I can dig it" and **** like that

Frownland:

1. Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band - Trout Mask Replica
2. Zu - Carboniferous
3. Mr. Bungle - Mr. Bungle
4. Peter Brotzmann Octet - Machine Gun
5. Gnod - Infinity Machines
6. Massacre - Killing Time
7. Moondog - Moondog
8. Billy Woods - History Will Absolve Me
9. Kreng - Works for Abattoir Fermé 2007-2011
10. The Red Krayola - The Parable of Arable Land

Frownland 10-20-2018 01:35 PM

Solid as hell but Mr. Bungle is imprinted on my brain at this point, I don't think that I ever need to hear it again (not that I mind). It'd be hard to get by without Coltrane too.

OH
1. JS Bach - The Art of Fugue
2. John Coltrane - Ascension
3. Swans - Filth
4. 2 Live Crew - As Nasty As They Wanna Be
5. Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972
6. Ornette Coleman - This Is Our Music
7. Sun Ra - Space Is the Place
8. John Cage - Indeterminacy: New Aspect of Form in Instrumental and Electronic Music
9. Jimi Hendrix - Axis: Bold As love
10. The Cure - Disintegration

OccultHawk 10-20-2018 01:36 PM

Big surprise ***land gets the first one

I don't know what other people listen to

[MERIT] 10-20-2018 06:05 PM

I doubt that anyone here knows me well enough to peg this correctly.

Neapolitan 10-20-2018 07:03 PM

I haven't seen Goofle around, I don't know if he'll see this. I don't really don't pay attention to people's taste in music, like what't their all time favorites, but of all the people here I'm more aware of his taste.

Goofle:
  1. Wire – Pink Flag
  2. The Fall – Live at the Witch Trials
  3. Catherine Wheel ‎– Ferment
  4. Rina Sawayama ‎– RINA
  5. Aqua Alta ‎– Dreamsphere
  6. To Love – Lady Wood
  7. Nadia Oh – Colours
  8. Lorde ‎– Melodrama
  9. Grimes – Art Angels
  10. Marvin Gaye - Let's Get It On

MicShazam 10-21-2018 01:47 AM

No one would get mine more than 20% right, but I'd do at least as bad with everyone else.

Exo 10-21-2018 09:07 AM

I'm only confident WWWP or Goofle would get mine right.

Mondo Bungle 10-21-2018 03:02 PM

Getting it "right" isn't the god damn point you ****ing ****s

MicShazam 10-21-2018 03:03 PM

Getting it right as in a list I would feel good about.

Mondo Bungle 10-21-2018 03:06 PM

well this had a good run, let's delete it

windsock 10-21-2018 03:11 PM

I've been here for 4+ years and I couldn't do a good list for more than 1-2 members and even then it would be kinda half-assed.

Off the top of my head:

Songs, Ohia - Magnolia Electric Co.
Tom Waits - Swordfishtrombones
Creepoid - Horse Heaven
Slint - Spiderland
Mars Volta - Deloused in the Crematorium
Cat Power - Moon Pix
Miles Davis - Bitches Brew
QOTSA - ???
Beastie Boys - Ill Communication
Swans - Love of Life

alternative: probably ween - the mollusk?

went for a good mix of nostalgia, variety in tonality and albums that work for zoning in on, or out to.

Yeah, I like this idea because it tells you what kind of taste you've left in other's mouth.
I have all 10 of those and could spend a long time with those. I just might find time to
create a list on someone else here. Find it interesting that some here "don't pay attention
to people's taste in music" or "don't know what you guys listen to" considering that this
is supposed to be the thrust of this forum, Musicbanter.

Of course I'll have a rough idea, but for most, I can't come up with many specific artists or albums before I go blank. I certainly couldn't just rattle of 10 albums for Frown, even if I know the general areas he's most interested in.

Some members, like Merit, I honestly can't name one single artist off the top of my head.

ummm... Ok so there's one more band I wanted to throw on - one that you've mentioned here and there and tried to get Elph to check out, but I can't remember the name.

Sorry that it's such a short list.

Oriphiel 10-22-2018 04:24 AM

The twist is that I actually only listen to Italo Disco

MicShazam 10-22-2018 05:33 AM

I feel like I should have remembered putting on some disco. And maybe some funk.

I know I said in a previous post that I don't pay attention to peoples taste. That's not entirely true. I do sometimes pay half attention to a selected few people around here. The first five are albums I think you might want me to air drop from a plane on fly-by over your deserted island instead of necessities like food, clothing and medical supplies. Sine I was only half paying attention I had to fill the other five albums slots with albums I like but not sure you might like, but guessing you might like based on my knowledge of what you like.

I was thinking of dropping a Brennan II with only ten albums on it, but that would be cruel. It can hold hundreds of albums and here am I only putting ten albums on it.

  1. ELO - Time
  2. Kate Bush - The Kick Inside
  3. Judas Priest - Screaming for Vengeance
  4. The Pandoras ‎– It's About Time
  5. Holly Golightly - My First Holly Golightly Album
  6. Heart ‎– Dreamboat Annie
  7. Missing Persons - Spring Session M
  8. Def Leppard - Pyromania
  9. The Flying Lizards - Top Ten
  10. Plastiscines ‎– LP1

Man everyone here really wants to do eachother and get done themselves. Very homoerotic. Or plain erotic, I don't know the genders of everyone here except for a handful. I keep editing this post and making it longer and less funny.

I like it a lot. Only thing I'd change would be Kind of Blue instead of BItches Brew. Oh and Lullabies to Paralyze for the QOSTA album. Nice insert of Cat Power.
