I know.

And for a casual fan whatever. Even for a pop music critic whatever (plus a sigh). But for a publication of professional critics to put a numerical value on it that is higher than how they scored Attica Blues https://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums...-attica-blues/ just makes them look ignorant. They could save themselves that embarrassment by simply not having the audacity to put a number on anything by Archie Shepp, which would also signal to me that they know how to stay in their ****ing lane.

They do excellent and informative write ups on jazz records and I respect that but they’re not serious jazz critics. They should respect their limitations.

I don't know **** about jazz. So maybe it's rated like that in the context of jazz music.

I think numeric ratings are reductive in general though, for this reason. I'm more interested in what they have to say about the album than the actual rating when watching/reading a review anyways.

Lucem, you're right, it's silly to talk about what I would or wouldn't do IRL. Glad you brought it up. Maybe you should write an instrumental about it. I recommend a piano paired with a clarinet. With ambient sounds of you hanging from your shower curtain you ****ing failure.

Art Is Dead. Buy My ****.

If anything pitchfork is to generous with that deplorable band

Check what they censored out in syndication though:

I like numeric ratings for new releases because it expedites the purpose.

It serves no purpose for music that is already canonical.

Even at your most cantankerous I doubt you seriously believe there would ever be any reason for me to defer to pitchfork when it comes to jazz from the 1960’s.

I notice that the ultimate point of your question is to boast.

This week I was listening to breton music, mostly from anghami music streaming platform, and sometimes bandcamp.

I am recommending from bandcamp first.

Mari-louise
by An Tri dipop

This is nice, listening now.

Rue du Chat qui danse
by Trio Forj

This is also nice, listened last month.

Les pieds au plancher
by Les Pieds au plancher

They were ok, a bit long.

Lost Spoon
by Lost Spoon

This was nice, not great but enjoyable.
