Virtual Concerts

With many events closing down, some artists are taking their shows to a virtual platform that you can stream live from home. I'm sure we can all use some entertainment during these times, so this thread is for posting shows worth checking out.

A couple of notable examples:
Code Orange | March 14
Metropolitan Opera Free Live Stream | March 16-31
Til Further Notice | March 19

So what else we got?

Frownland 03-20-2020 04:04 PM

Blanck Mass | March 21, 4 PM EST

OccultHawk 03-20-2020 04:11 PM

These are actually live?

Frownland 03-20-2020 04:51 PM

Mhmm

Frownland 03-24-2020 12:18 PM

Oh Sees did this in place of a show. The venue (Zebulon Cafe) is also set to premiere a lot of past live performances on their channel.

And this

The Six-Hour Experimental Opera Happening on Zoom | Performance of Full Pink Moon By Pauline Oliveros

OccultHawk 04-08-2020 10:39 AM

The section that I watched was great. Do you have a list of who performed? This one cellist was especially impressive.

I love how much restraint they were showing.

Frownland 04-08-2020 11:32 AM

I watched about an hour and it was excellent indeed. Really hope to see more things like this or technological adaptations that can make these kinds of projects closer to real time performance (an issue I've had trying remote collaboration).

Here's the artist list: https://www.seangriffin.org/full-pink-moon-artists

Maybe it was this one:

CHERIE DONG

Canada, Markham, ON

Cherie Dong is a young cellist from China. She began her musical studies at the age of four. Currently, Cherie is pursing a Doctor of Musical Arts degree at the University of Toronto with Professor Shauna Rolston Shaw. Cherie completed her Bachelor of Music degree in cello performance at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and her Master of Music degree at the University of Cincinnati under Professor Yehuda Hanani.
That list of musicians is probably five years worth of musical discoveries.

I’m going to slowly start investigating those that were involved.

Again, I have to state this again, the way that many artists could put their egos aside to make room for everyone, in a loose setting like that...

I wish SunRa could’ve seen that because that is so much what he was about. And Cage, too.

I mean you see something like that - Cage was thinking like that so long ago.

Those are some great names

I’ll be interested in the discussion panels

Frownland 07-11-2020 11:41 AM

Friendly reminder for the Catalytic Sound Festival, I totally forgot about it yesterday.

OccultHawk 07-11-2020 12:29 PM

I’m watching it now

Frownland 07-11-2020 12:39 PM

Damn so Nate Wooley's really rocking a poster of himself in his room huh. Feels like the performer equivalent of wearing a shirt off the band you're seeing to the show.

This Icepick (Wooley/Corsano/Håker Flaten) set is excellent.

rostasi 07-11-2020 12:42 PM

Yesterday's line-up was great.
The piece for Yoko was hilarious!
... and the video quality is sooooo
much better than the Bang-On-A-Can stuff.

rostasi 07-11-2020 01:40 PM

Frown's watching Terrie Ex and Andy Moor and getting ideas. :D

Frownland 07-11-2020 02:06 PM

lol I was mainly concerned that Andy was going to break a string.

OccultHawk 07-11-2020 03:24 PM

They showed a replay of Paal Nilssen-Love / Frode Gjerstad

There’s some previous stuff from this series in youtube

rostasi 07-11-2020 03:37 PM

At the bottom of the feed window, you can sample the archive from there.

rostasi 07-11-2020 06:25 PM

Frownland 07-12-2020 12:41 PM

Better view of what Susan Alcorn is doing than you would get at a regular concert. They need to turn her channel up though.

rostasi 07-12-2020 01:16 PM

Yes, good to see her playing. Sharon's a big fan of her work.
I'm becoming less a fan of the "Zoom concert" setup of tight little squares,
but that's what some have to do - especially if you've never played together
as an ensemble and want to do so cheaply and necessarily.
That's why I like this setup more than the Bang-On-a-Can one
where everything was Zoom(ish).

Ingebrigt and Håkon play grandmother's music - LOL!
(in a video setup I like).

I'm completely impressed by the past and future concert setups at ESS (since March!)

rostasi 07-12-2020 01:44 PM

Jaap up close!

Yeah - some of that hit home hard

rostasi 07-12-2020 09:17 PM

For decades that album was out of print and lots of people were either paying
damn near 1000 bucks for it or pleading that somebody should put it out again.
Not only did it finally come back out not too long ago, but then a 4 disc set of
the recordings from that complete session came out too.

Yes. I had a travel agent sell me an impossible connection because of the international date line. It was on the return flight and I didn’t notice the error until I was on the flight going to my destination. I was looking at my itinerary and spent like two hours trying to figure out if it was really wrong or if my brain was just looping around. It was really wrong. It only took a short phone call to correct it though.

rostasi 07-31-2020 06:02 PM

I sent that link to my friend in Tokyo
and he said that it looked good, but
“... I have to attend another concert at the same time
in which only silent pieces (including 4’33”) will be played.“

Frownland 07-31-2020 06:08 PM

I'm going to be attending one of those as well if my alarm doesn't go off.
