Virtual Concerts
With many events closing down, some artists are taking their shows to a virtual platform that you can stream live from home. I'm sure we can all use some entertainment during these times, so this thread is for posting shows worth checking out.
A couple of notable examples: Code Orange | March 14 Metropolitan Opera Free Live Stream | March 16-31 Til Further Notice | March 19 So what else we got? |
|
These are actually live?
|
Mhmm
|
Oh Sees did this in place of a show. The venue (Zebulon Cafe) is also set to premiere a lot of past live performances on their channel.

I love how much restraint they were showing. |
I watched about an hour and it was excellent indeed. Really hope to see more things like this or technological adaptations that can make these kinds of projects closer to real time performance (an issue I've had trying remote collaboration).

I’m going to slowly start investigating those that were involved. Again, I have to state this again, the way that many artists could put their egos aside to make room for everyone, in a loose setting like that... I wish SunRa could’ve seen that because that is so much what he was about. And Cage, too. I mean you see something like that - Cage was thinking like that so long ago. |

|
Those are some great names
I’ll be interested in the discussion panels |
Friendly reminder for the Catalytic Sound Festival, I totally forgot about it yesterday.
|
I’m watching it now
|
Damn so Nate Wooley's really rocking a poster of himself in his room huh. Feels like the performer equivalent of wearing a shirt off the band you're seeing to the show.
This Icepick (Wooley/Corsano/Håker Flaten) set is excellent. |
Yesterday's line-up was great.
The piece for Yoko was hilarious! ... and the video quality is sooooo much better than the Bang-On-A-Can stuff. |
Frown's watching Terrie Ex and Andy Moor and getting ideas. :D
|
lol I was mainly concerned that Andy was going to break a string.
|
They showed a replay of Paal Nilssen-Love / Frode Gjerstad
There’s some previous stuff from this series in youtube |
At the bottom of the feed window, you can sample the archive from there.
|
... and we're back!

Another day of goodies...
Catalytic Sound Festival 2020 (day 3) 1:00pm Program 1: Chris Corsano 1:30pm Susan Alcorn / Macie Stewart / Tim Daisy 2:05pm Ingebrigt Håker Flaten / Håkon Kornstad 2:40pm Mats Gustafsson / Jaap Blonk / Fred Lonberg-Holm 3:15pm Discussion Panel 3 (Where Are We Going?) ft... 7:00pm Program 2: Ikue Mori 7:25pm Claire Rousay 7:50pm Ben Hall / Bonnie Jones / Luke Stewart 8:25pm Joe Morris |
Better view of what Susan Alcorn is doing than you would get at a regular concert. They need to turn her channel up though.
|
Yes, good to see her playing. Sharon's a big fan of her work.
I'm becoming less a fan of the "Zoom concert" setup of tight little squares, but that's what some have to do - especially if you've never played together as an ensemble and want to do so cheaply and necessarily. That's why I like this setup more than the Bang-On-a-Can one where everything was Zoom(ish). Ingebrigt and Håkon play grandmother's music - LOL! (in a video setup I like). I'm completely impressed by the past and future concert setups at ESS (since March!) |
Jaap up close!

Joe Morris and Joe McPhee both unassailable

More than a couple of Joes!
It's NATION TIME y'all! |

For decades that album was out of print and lots of people were either paying
damn near 1000 bucks for it or pleading that somebody should put it out again. Not only did it finally come back out not too long ago, but then a 4 disc set of the recordings from that complete session came out too. https://i.imgur.com/BQ98JiV.jpg?1 |

I sent that link to my friend in Tokyo
and he said that it looked good, but “... I have to attend another concert at the same time in which only silent pieces (including 4’33”) will be played.“ |
I'm going to be attending one of those as well if my alarm doesn't go off.
