Top 10 Favourite albums of 1969?
1969 was the year I started to listen to music, so I'm curious. What are your top 10 albums of 1969?

You picked an interesting year, SlyStone, right in the middle of the psychedelic era, with the "Summer of Love" ('67) still a fresh memory. None the less, checking in with wiki, I find that some of my favourite artists were either idle, or not coming up with their best in '69.
(Also, Honorary Mention to Simon & Garfunkel, who spent '69 recording Bridge over Troubled Water, but missed Sly's deadline because the album wasn't released until 26 days into the next year.) I'm going to play my Boomer card because, unlike Norg, I was regulary buying albums in '69, so I have two lists, both of which are in As-I-Thought-Of-Them order:- Albums I liked at the time:- 1. Pink Floyd - Ummagumma 2. John Fahey -The Yellow Princess 3. Pentangle - Basket of Light 4. Frank Zappa - Hot Rats 5. Nick Drake -Five Leaves Left 6. Captain Beefheart - Tout Mask Replica 7. Bob Dylan - Nashville Skyline 8. Original London Cast - Hair 9. Wendy* Carlos - The Well-Tempered Synthesizer (* known as Walter '69 ) 10. Quintessence - In Blissful Company Albums I discovered later in life:- 1. Boz Scaggs - Boz Scaggs 2. Miles Davis - In A Silent Way 3. Isaac Hayes - Hot Buttered Soul 4. Neil Young - Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere 5. Kevin Ayers - Joy Of A Toy 6. Renaissance - Renaissance 7. Moondog - Moondog 8. Clark-Hutchinson - A=MH2 9. Third Ear Band - Alchemy |

Now having that said... Norg admitted he wasn't born then |
Could be worse. You'll be dead way sooner than we will.

HaHa! When that happens, your generation will get promoted to the vacancy of Tedious Old Windbags. Perhaps you should start working on your stories now:-
- Back in my day, nobody imagined tele-transportation would become a reality. - I remember when Florida was still above sea level. - I was there, during the first Summer of Covid. - I saw Dolly Parton live. (to which the response will be "Dolly who?" ) - Of course, we had it tough; we actually had to lift food up to our mouths and chew it! __________________________________________________ ____ I didn't know you grew up in the 60s/70s, Sly! Welcome to the oldtimers club. Our goal: to exasperate Batlord by flooding the threads with annoying, nostalgic posts. |
im a older Gen Y or millennial i was born in the mid 80's
we were kids when we seen the rise of MTV all the alt rock bands grunge the rise of hip hop and pop and pop country well in the 90's it was just a melting pot of everything pretty much then around 2000 we were full fledge teenagers |
Jeez, I feel like a little baby boy. Born in '93, so definitely a younger millennial. Almost gen z, in fact. But not quite.

A then & now sorta along the same lines as Lisnaholic. I'm old enough to remember buying music before I could find it "free" *cough cough* on the iinternet. Most of these albums I borrowed from family. A few I bought myself. ItCotCK was one of the first albums I ever bought. I bought 6 &12 right after seeing Leo Kottke play live.

Albums I discovered on YouTube. Now:

Agreed that it's pretty overrated though. |
My intake of Zappa has dwindled each year but I can't ever deny that Hot Rats f*cking slaps.

The Ventures, CCR and The Meters had a busy year in '69 all releasing more than one album. What album do you consider better The Meters (debut) or Look-Ka Py Py? |
