While I enjoy vinyl. Will it continue ?

Ok, new on here .
I been collecting lp ‘s and enjoying all types of music since I was young.
But with the prices of records rising both new and used. I been asking myself how long before many go enough. RSD 2023 was just ok but I was taken back on prices and how one artist gets a huge release and others next to nothing. While I enjoy a great sounding lp I cant justify seeing a reissue going for 150 plus. Yet Blue Note has seemed to get it right.
Plus a-lot of record stores are saying it starting to slow up and cd’s and cassettes are starting to sell more. Another format I enjoy btw. (cd’s)
Also when did anyone with a smart phone become a record critic? You-Tube I chuckle when and man my age says you dont know what your missing not buying this re issue . FOMO I think not !!!!!!
My son and his friends just stream and I must say most sounds good .They don't have to move a collection lol.FYI I don't think vinyl is the be all end all. It is just something I grew up with.

I have a record collection, a CD collection, some cassettes, and a couple of 8-tracks. I never got much into cassettes or 8-tracks, so the ones I have were purchased new back in the 70's and 80's. I still buy records and CD's but probably not more than 10 to 12 of each format per year. If a record or a CD is selling for more than $20, I'll pass on it because I just can't see paying more than that for a physical copy of music in any format. I have maybe 6 or 7 records I got from various RSD releases over the years but I bought them online at a discount after their original release date. No way that I'd ever queue up outside a record shop before it opens on a specific date just to buy something with a "limited" pressing made specifically for RSD.

Speaking of tape format. Have you seen prices of Reel To Reel . Many say thats audio nirvana. Until a reel spins out on ya . Than your apartment looks like tape spaghetti.
RSD and Quality do not go hand in hand. But they been releasing stuff on cassette though.

I have two opinions on this I guess...

- I don't give a sh*t about new vinyl for my own collecting so I don't care how expensive things get, I'm not buying new vinyl. That being said, the things I do buy...original jazz pressings...is going up as well but that has been the case forever.

- I run a record/book/media store so prices affect me but since I don't make money on used vinyl as it is, I don't care about that either. I'll stop buying new vinyl once the bubble bursts and focus on used which is what I prefer to do anyway.

I grew up with vinyl, and later cassettes. I was pissed off in the late 80s/early 90s when CDs took over, mostly because I had a large record collection and CDs were more expensive. Now, it's the other way around: records are much more expensive and CDs are cheaper. I eventually overcame my bias against CDs, mostly because I have rarely had to return a CD because it was defective, unlike vinyl with its warps, skips, etc.

I still appreciate physical media when it comes to music. I like having a tangible product with liner notes. It really captures a moment in time, unlike streaming, which IMO tends to devalue music, making it just another throwaway commodity. I don't buy as many CDs as I used to, though. If a CD of music I really like isn't available, I'll buy a digital download and burn my own disc.

i still buy CDs & stream never liked vinyls i used to skim through vinyl's but only to discover new music would just take a picture of the artist lol esp 45's they had aloooot of punk n hardcore and just weird avent grade stuff

but yeah i guess i like old vinyl from like 40's-80's but im guessing any original vinyl's from the 40s and 50's is prob unplayable now LOL

Nah. I think the ones in good condition have held up pretty well. I remember growing up when they were saying that vinyl records would eventually deteriorate, but if you kept the records clean and protected, they still sound quite well.

Yeah, I mean, they've always been expensive. The mastering back then was so top notch. Even hammered copies sound fantastic.

What's your local shop? I run a store in NJ so I know a lot of owners just because it's a small grooup that own shops in the area and are cool.
