All 4 original members of Sunny Day Real Estate are reuniting for a fall 2009 tour. I just bought some tickets for the Seattle show.

Quote:
Following a more than 10 year hiatus, all four original members of pioneering Seattle rock band Sunny Day Real Estate will regroup for a 20-date US tour starting Sept. 17th, 2009. In addition, Sub Pop Records will re-issue both Diary and the band’s second full-length album, commonly known as LP2 (or “The Pink Album” for its entirely pink cover). Both re-mastered albums will include rare bonus tracks as well as newly written liner notes and will be released on both CD and LP Sept. 15, 2009, just prior to the start of the tour.
Tour dates on the official site

That said, I wish this thread were in the Indie & Alternative forum, or the Rock & Metal...or at least the general Punk forum...since they weren't consistently hardcore/emo.

I'd love to see your signature/links too, but the huge and obnoxious ones have caused me to block all signatures.

Got my tickets for Austin today.
I surprised myself a little bit by how excited I got when I heard this was happening. I really like all of their stuff -- but the first 2 albums are definitely special. I've seen Sunny Day 3 times in the past, but this'll be my first time seeing the original band.

I also surprised myself at my excitement. I tend to pass on a lot of shows despite getting excited when I first find out about them, and I very rarely buy tickets this far in advance. VERY rarely. I'm not sure what did it. I never had the chance to see them live, but that doesn't really explain it.

I just had a feeling these tickets would sell out fast. Cult following, small venue and all that.

Aren't they critically considered like the defining emo band? I don't even know what the means, but still

Are the first two albums really that much better? I always felt that they were at the absolute height of their powers with "How It Feels To Be Something On"

Um..yes and no. They are considered that now that there is an established scene that needs some figureheads - but there was no such thing as Emo in the early 90s (not in the codified sense anyway). People who need to categorize all music probably even called them grunge at the time.

In my opinion, yes, they really are.
