To me Rites of Spring, Embrace and Dag Nasty are melodic hardcore but this where emo really started to actually step away from hardcore and be able to stand by itself. Tonie Joy is just such an amazing guitarist (you should check out Universal Order of Armagedon) and all the songs they wrote are amazing and they deserve and infinite amount of praise imeansrslyy0.

Moss Icon is a pretty far cry from Hardcore Punk... In fact, the only remotely punk portion of their discography is limited to their demo and their first 7". Everything afterwards is... well, way different, to say the least.
