My favorite emo song is by Neil Perry, it's called "Mauro, If This Post Is About Alesana, I'm Going To ****ing Kill You".

What the **** is this...? Haha. As sweet as the Geto Boys are, they're not really emo.

swim 02-16-2009 05:47 AM

Closure rules.

AlwaysBenji 02-19-2009 07:39 PM

LOL, no, "Mauro, If This Show Is About God..."

And yeah, Closure are amazing. Some of the tighest snare work i have ever heard in a screamo band and those screams! DAMN SON!

swim 02-19-2009 07:43 PM

and it that LP was made in '96 that's what trips me out man. I would say Mountain Records is so underrated but they put out a lot of garbage.

AlwaysBenji 02-19-2009 08:54 PM

Closure were ridiculously ahead of their time for sure. Even hints at early metalcore-ish sounds, I reckon.

happy go licky and rain. lets not forget them. all from around the same times as rites of spring.

Midi 03-30-2009 01:21 AM

I saw Armor for Sleep's Dream to Make Believe at Half-Priced Book Store, I know nothing of the band other than that they're considered 'emo'. I'm wondering whether the album is worth the purchase, or not. I could spend the money on the numerous progressive rock oriented albums they have lying around, but aside from Circle Takes The Square, I've been rather distant from this genre.

alliteration 03-30-2009 06:23 AM

I wouldn't consider them emo at all. I saw that band live once and thought they were pretty awful.

because you closeminded yokels closed the FOB vs MCR thread... i vote for Fall Out Boy. The only thing MCR had going for them was James Dewees playing keyboards for a short time. FOB, on the other hand, ****ing rules. Patrick can ****ing wail on his pipes

haha, i would consider their older stuff emo like their first album. Everything else seems kind of like post-indiemo i dont know.

Dr.Seussicide 07-13-2009 08:41 PM

Oh ok, then I need to get that album, lol. I have only their latest one, Catastrophe keeps us together and it sounds more Indie than emo to me, lol, but still good I'd say

bardonodude 07-13-2009 08:58 PM

here you go http://feriadoenelsol.blogspot.com/s...Rainer%20Maria

Thanks so much for this post, I'm literally going to refer anyone to this page who tells me MCR or Fall Out Boy are emo. -__-

VeggieLover 07-20-2009 12:04 PM

I've never really understood why everyone makes such a big deal about catagorizing bands into very specific and limiting genres. Who out there only listens to one genre? What artist likes being shoved into a box? Of course genres still exist to help people find and follow music they may like, but as far as trying to define them in specific terms...? useless I'd say. Bands and music are going to evolve and grow and take from eachother regardless of genre, no one is going to fit into any mold or outline except the one they design themselves.

though, I'd have to say, the original post was fair and thorough, and if you have to define, thats the way to do it i suppose.

appledandy 10-22-2009 05:15 PM

though I know what the term "skramz" refers to, I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me on just how this particular term came to be, and why so many fans/bands dislike the term. For example: I Wrote a Haikus About Cannibalism's myspace headline is "stop calling it skramz"

originated on the internet to differentiate between real screamo & metalcore/pop with screaming/etc "screamo", and people dislike it because it sounds ****ing retarded

alliteration 10-23-2009 12:47 PM

It was a term first coined by BOSS SKRAMZ himself, aka Alex Bigman I think. He was the vocalist for Seeing Means More, which put out a split with Efra, which was actually pretty good, and a 5 song LP I think, which kind of sucked. He's the vocalist for the pop-punk band Fight Fair now. And yeah, like Caveman said, its just a stupid term made up for legitimate screamo bands. Its f.ucking stupid and I hate the term. Pretty much anyone who uses it seriously probably just heard about Orchid last week. Or at least thats how I envision it.

haha yeah, im very proud to have never used this term. I find it pretty stupid to begin with. I like seeing means more, even though they didnt have many songs...but i must say they seemed like they only had a very basic grasp of stereotypical bands like orchid and indian summer.

appledandy 10-23-2009 02:17 PM

i don't think it should matter how stupid it sounds, i mean, most genre names are ridiculous. rock. metal. country. folk. punk. emo. hardcore. screamo. pop. so on and so on. it seems like more of a convenience term to differentiate between something like the kodan armada, and bring me the horizon. though if you need to explain the difference to somebody...

xcassiusx 10-23-2009 09:25 PM

There's a building in South Bend that says "KREAMO"
surprised some scenester hasnt put an S in front of it.

i gotta SKRAMZ.

Aragn Ramone 10-31-2009 11:40 PM

Why the Post-Emo bands enjoy names like "Jets To Brazil", "Texas Is The Reason" or "American Football"?

And Jets To Brazil never came to Brazil :(

Check out Vendetta Red, particularly the "Between the Never and the Now" album. "Sisters of the Red Death" is decent, but it's not up to the standard that the first album established.
You might try Reggie and the Full Effect, too. Blindside and Billy Talent were almost of that genre, and definitely of the same time frame.

Hope that helps.

Checking this out now.

Holy fuck, I love alpinist btw. This is the shit man. Thanks for the rec!

Edit: This isn't screamo/sludge man. I don't even think it's screamo =| But thanks for the recs anyways.
