Default Emo bands...

Ok, now many of you have an obscure view of what emo music is. Emois a term derived from emotional hardcore. This term came from the following bands Rites Of Spring, Indian Summer, Heroin, Navio Forge, etc. Ok, so these are some of the originatrs of emo. Now, excellent emo bands that are sort of recently defunct include; Saetia, Reversal Of Man, ORCHID, Spirit Of Versailles, Usurp Synapse, JEROMES DREAM, Anasarca (not the death metal band), Neil Perry, I Hate Myself, Swing Kids, Antioch Arrow, Angel Hair, Mohinder, Clikitat Ikatowi, etc. Bands that are stil ltogether and playing emo are; Off Minor, Welcome THe Plague Year, Kaospilot, Hot Cross, Van Johnson, Panthers, Yaphet Kotto, Kodan Armada, etc. So listen to those bands, they are emo. Keep in mind screamo, emocore, emo, screamy hardcore, etc. are all emo really. Those bands are emo, listen, read, fall in love.

...A friend of David?

First off...'emo is a term DERIVED from emotional hardcore' this statement gives no basic knowledge of what emo is today. The entire arguement of 'what is emo and what is not' is a present conflict, not bands from 20 years ago. When speaking in terms of labels...I agree those bands would be considered 'emo' during their time, but people these days have an entire different outlook on emo. Todays 'emo' was derived from that of the latter years with bands like Rites of Spring, but they derived into something cmopletely different. They share the same base and roots, but branched into completely different things. People today are overly involved in labeling bands. There are too many labels for similar music. Just as long as we all agree that its all good music, and get passed what it is called we will be fine, but everyone is too tied up in the overcoat of emo, not the music, but the name and appearance.

Second...How do you know that those bands are emo? Where is the correct definition of 'emo'? I'm not by any means atacking you or attemting to offend you. Just wondering where you get that information. Thank you. Sorry if I got a little off track.

I sorta agree with scott. Many people think that emo is an adjective whereelse it is actually a genre of music. Cause you're basically saying "Anything u think is emo is emo" Which in a way is like saying "anything u think is rap is rap". Like you can't say that elton john is so rap because he isn't. You can't say Taking back sunday is so emo because they aren't. Emo has a definite set of characteristics displayed by bands like he mentioned. You can't say emo is simply emotional because its like saying country music is simply singing.

I hope I didnt' get anyone lost here

You are all stuck in the past....Im not speaking of what emo was pre-2000, but today. What millions of people look at as emo, and what many view as non-emo music. You all got me wrong, I am not saying that your past music is not emo, but I just want to know how TBS isnt labeled "present-day emo" I feel that it has not died out persay, but has just taken a different path in style.

What people think as emo? Thousands of people still think simple plan is emo. To me its like calling heavy metal classical music. Remember when punk started getting all introspective and emotional? We don't call it punk...we call it emo. We don't call it the Newer Punk Rock because it was different. Although, bands like DC, Brand, and TBS are wrongly classified as emo, they are not the New Emo. Just like Mineral, Cap'n Jazz were not the "newer punk" they were a different category.

So in short TBS is not present-day emo because it is entirely different. It is present day pop-rock.

After reading a couple old, old posts from Zealious, I've come to realize that Thrice and everyone else were serious *******s to Zealious and David Frost for trying to spread information about the correctly named emo genre.

I'm glad there's a general understanding now.

nah dude those bands are still just really underground. When a style changes you give it a new name. again...<3 subgenres.

We should just let the posers have the word, it's not even a good word. We should just call it all post hardcore, it sounds way cooler.
