EMO ROCKS!!

man i don't understand why so many people consider the ataris to be emo?!
maybe the lyrics are typical of emo, but i consider the music to be very punk rock... so i wouldn't call it emo at all. and the same thing with thrice. don't understand it wrong! i love thrice, actually i'm going to see them in about three weeks here in germay (munich). but i just wouldn't call it emo, because the music isn't the typical sad music... well, whatever, just wanted to get that off my heart.

Yeah, I agree with you rme... The Ataris and Rufio are definately more Pop Punk than Emo... (Which is not to say that they're not super bands).

Pimp_racer 02-01-2004 06:58 PM

i think that the ataris are definately emo along with rufio...but thrice isnt

emocapella 02-02-2004 03:26 PM

yeah ur rite- thrice isnt- but dude, the ataris and rufio def are...but yeah, thrice is a little heavy to be considered emo

abakubub 02-02-2004 03:38 PM

Man, Emo was originally all about being heavy. Sheesh. Don't lose touch with your roots.

emocapella 02-02-2004 03:46 PM

u misunderstood- heavy as in the style not lyrics...and dude- emo was never heavy in the sense of rock style

emocapella 02-02-2004 03:48 PM

BTW- unrelated to anything- how do u start a thread- or can i at all?

abakubub 02-02-2004 03:50 PM

There's a start-a-thread button on the top left side.

And you need to do some research into the origins of your genre - Emo was quite heavy (both lyrically and musically) in its first incarnation, it was a direct descendent of the first hardcore bands in the 1980s DC scene. There's been some discussion of those earlier bands in other threads in the Emo forum, you should check it out.

how heavy are we talking about- like metal heavy or like hardcore punk heavy...b/c im talking like metal type...my point is... emo was never that heavy and in emo's current state, thrice is heavier than what is considered to be emo...

Here are some bands:
Rites of Spring (the band that created the genre)
Saetia
Frail
Indian Summer
Antioch Arrow

And here is a nice outline of the genre's history: http://www.imsoemo.com/styles.htm
