Thrice 01-09-2004 07:08 PM

Definently...Rufio is pretty awesome...Youre right their guitar in cool too, but in alot of their songs they sound like that whiny emo stuff.

MobilizeTerror 01-11-2004 12:56 AM

I don't like emo ...so go cry about it haha.. Just kidding, really I don't like it though.

Thrice 01-12-2004 03:59 PM

Clover 01-27-2004 07:36 PM

Yeah, I like emo. Haven't actually been listening to it for too long though. In fact I didn't really know what it was until probably a few months ago, but a friend of mine started sending me some music, and now I love it. :)

EMO ROCKS!!

man i don't understand why so many people consider the ataris to be emo?!
maybe the lyrics are typical of emo, but i consider the music to be very punk rock... so i wouldn't call it emo at all. and the same thing with thrice. don't understand it wrong! i love thrice, actually i'm going to see them in about three weeks here in germay (munich). but i just wouldn't call it emo, because the music isn't the typical sad music... well, whatever, just wanted to get that off my heart.

abakubub 02-01-2004 10:53 AM

Yeah, I agree with you rme... The Ataris and Rufio are definately more Pop Punk than Emo... (Which is not to say that they're not super bands).

Pimp_racer 02-01-2004 06:58 PM

i think that the ataris are definately emo along with rufio...but thrice isnt

emocapella 02-02-2004 03:26 PM

yeah ur rite- thrice isnt- but dude, the ataris and rufio def are...but yeah, thrice is a little heavy to be considered emo

abakubub 02-02-2004 03:38 PM

Man, Emo was originally all about being heavy. Sheesh. Don't lose touch with your roots.

emocapella 02-02-2004 03:46 PM

u misunderstood- heavy as in the style not lyrics...and dude- emo was never heavy in the sense of rock style

emocapella 02-02-2004 03:48 PM

BTW- unrelated to anything- how do u start a thread- or can i at all?

abakubub 02-02-2004 03:50 PM

There's a start-a-thread button on the top left side.

And you need to do some research into the origins of your genre - Emo was quite heavy (both lyrically and musically) in its first incarnation, it was a direct descendent of the first hardcore bands in the 1980s DC scene. There's been some discussion of those earlier bands in other threads in the Emo forum, you should check it out.

emocapella 02-02-2004 03:53 PM

how heavy are we talking about- like metal heavy or like hardcore punk heavy...b/c im talking like metal type...my point is... emo was never that heavy and in emo's current state, thrice is heavier than what is considered to be emo...

abakubub 02-02-2004 03:57 PM

Here are some bands:
Rites of Spring (the band that created the genre)
Saetia
Frail
Indian Summer
Antioch Arrow

And here is a nice outline of the genre's history: http://www.imsoemo.com/styles.htm

anthm_dying_day 02-04-2004 06:16 PM

thank you abakubub, someone who actually knows what they are tlaking about!

that earlier post left out Fugazi as one of the starters of emo tssk tssk Hey im emo and proud to be labeled as emo its nothing to be ashamed of and as far as the thrice thing goes emo is a lot about the music but lyrics too and I think especially " In years to Come" is an emo song I mean its dark emo but still
"I wanna take the bullet the one aimed straight for your heart"
"I wanna climb barb wire fences and warm our hands in blood"

Kathryn 05-24-2004 10:45 AM

not a big fan... I find a lot of emo music takes itself too seriously (also emo kids)

You don't listen to emo, you listen to pop. Get your facts straight

Yeah thats right! You dont know anything unless you listen to "real emo" and theres only a select few that do, so you might as well give up on life.

You don't have to listen to "real emo", I just don't appreciate it when people that listen to dashboard confessional and MCR say they love emo even though they probably don't have a clue what they are listening to. Like I really don't care what people listen to but at least actually know what you're talking about. BTW, I recently bought A New Found Glory's Catalyst CD, and its pretty good for pop; however, I acknowledge that they are only pop and by liking their music I do not love the whole punk genre of music.
