This year has been a terrible year for emo.

NoiseNotMusic 10-23-2007 11:06 PM

rip blood brothers too. People are getting sued for having oink accounts in arizona. Today is a bad day for music.

bardonodude 10-24-2007 07:33 AM

Im glad my account from oink got deleted due to my inactivity and I never accepted my invite back to there, I def lucked out. Where are all of these people's sources for Blood Brothers breaking up? The only way I found out that Some Girls broke up was because I looked at the band members and it said Start To Finish.

They're on hiatus of sort, though you can check out Jaguar Love which is a side project of theirs and sounds really similar to The Blood Brothers.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 10-24-2007 04:17 PM

**** JP, Blood Brothers can't be broke up.

Jaguar Love is weak.

xcassiusx 10-25-2007 07:19 PM

don't care for some girls nor' blood brothers.

oh well. oh, and i heard blood brothers is on hiatus...but seriously, who believes that'll stay true? lulz.

xcult_classicx 10-29-2007 09:33 AM

i love Some Girls. too bad

alliteration 10-29-2007 01:15 PM

this band was way overrated. their first few 7"s were ok, but the latest stuff was garbage. people jock this band so hard because so many ride wes and JP's ****s so hard. considering JP and the Locust are complete garbage now, and GUTG has been gone for years, people need to give it up.

lol why cos they started taking hardcore in different directions besides straight up? Learn to branch out. New locust is probably some of their best stuff.

I'm already branched out enough. If you think that 4 minute long songs that drone on and on are "taking hardcore in a different direction" you are sadly mistaken. The Locust's music at present lack ingenuity and originality. It seems JP got frustrated by people telling him his songs were too short, so he snorted more coke and made really long boring songs. Go listen to the split with Jenny Piccolo and tell me this band has branched out. Or better yet, go listen to some Paco de Lucia and then talk to me about "branching out."

I realize that post probably came off as hostile. I swear I'm not mad, though understandably so when it seems every time I talk to someone about hardcore or "skramz" (most idiotic term ever) some ass tells me how limited my taste in music is. The fact that the Locust make garbage music now apparently makes a strong case for me having a limited taste in music. How strange.

bardonodude 10-29-2007 08:29 PM

I think the locust just make music and theyre not looking to take hardcore or any specific genre in a new direction. They're just taking the way they play in a new direction and are one of the most original bands out there.

Yeah. He said that before they turned into a crap band. He certainly has changed the way I look at his music. It blows now. More Swing Kids, please.

You have no legit reason for saying they suck now tho. Just that it lacks originality which makes no sense whatsoever. I don't know anyone who sounds like them. New stuff still sounds like them but just not as short. Watch them live playing their new stuff man. They still got it. I didn't mean to say yr taste in music is limited, It just seemed like an ignorant statement to me.

oh and I only heard of that "Skramz" shit when I got here. Where do you kids come up with such silly words?

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 11-01-2007 04:59 PM

i had (still kinda have) the chance to see the locust this sat. but i'm going to another local show that doesn't cost 20$ + ticketmaster fees and taxes

I think you're making the mistake of thinking that because they sound different than what you normally hear makes them original. Compared to their earlier stuff, this is much more bland and less original. many bands do very similar things that The Locust do. And I feel my statement for saying they suck is pretty legitimate...I mean, this basically boils down to opinion, right? I mean, musically, I feel they are much more devoid of originality than they were...I compare them to other bands that adopted certain methods they used to use in their music, and many bands are doing many more creative things. You might disagree, whatever. Also, the new stuff doesn't really sound like them, but longer. Their old stuff compared to the stuff now is worlds apart, and much less entertaining to me, but thats just me. No big deal. Sorry to keep beating a dead horse, I'll stop now.

Anyhow, the term "skramz," which it seems not that many people seem to know, was a term coined by Alex aka "Boss Skramz," vocalist for Seeing Means More. Ironically enough, his band doesn't really do screaming vocals, and musically its so different than what most people call "skramz" today. Anyone who has listened to them, they play a breakdown filled type of emotive hardcore/metalcore. I like it, and this was the band that coined the term "skramz" yet they sound nothing like most of these bands people call skramz. I've heard people call Loma Prieta a "skram" band, but they sound nothing like SMM at all, so it seems this retarded term is just being applied to any screamo band nowadays...awesome (sarcasm). Thank all those idiots over at CMHWAK for being tools and making this idiotic term applied to any type of emotive hardcore.

I agree that the locust sound different. I personally like their Plague Soundscapes and Flight of the Wounded Locust stage the most which showed their evolution from the stereotypical death/grind drumming from their selftitled and early splits I guess because gabe was on drums at that timeand before it was some other dude that didnt have nearly as much talent. But their new stuff is awesome as well, I love the change in vocal style although Joey's high pitched scream is absent and probably my favorite. Yea I can agree with you that the new stuff is worlds apart and isnt nearly as spastic as plague soundscapes or their earlier stuff but they are both still original despite having longer songs. They continue to be original showcasing and improving upon their Safety Second, Body Last stage which showed a totally different and awesome side of them. Not many bands have 5 movements in one song. Especially bands like the locust haha. All of their songs on New Erections vary in length. They still have 2 songs off the top of my hear that are under one minute and then others which are all over the place, every song isnt the traditional four minutes that many "mainstream" artists use on their albums.

yea Ive never heard the term skramz before I read it in this thread haha, I guess I just prefer to use traditional terms to characterize music. Loma Prieta is awesome though <3. I wish I would have known about them when they came to ccas (charm city artspace the most wellknown diy venue in baltimore). I found out about them through L'Antietam and they werent all over each others nuts then.

yeah, Loma Prieta, nor any screamo bands ever come to Michigan. We did get lucky and get to play with L'antietam when they came to Michigan this past summer, its always cool to play with them and Men As Trees. Loma Prieta is probably one of my favorite hardcore bands right now, the way they compose their music is pretty rare in screamo nowadays, not to mention, they're just completely nuts, I can't wait to hear their split with L'antietam.

Does anyone else feel that most of the present screamo bands are just pretty lame? There are very few that I really like at all.

btw, you're the one who started that thread about my band on here. thanks for promoting us, Brandon. haha.

NoiseNotMusic 11-02-2007 12:52 PM

Sucks that bands like Loma Prieta are pretty much defunct in this area. DC used to be like THE scene for "screamo" bands but now they have all broke up just about. I miss it :(

haha no problem, Im guessing you're from Ariadne's Thread? Your album better come out soon. Welcome to the forum =), how did you find out about this place? Im sure that was a sweet show, I was supposed to see L'Antietam in Baltimore but their van had to cough up a lun the day before they were supposed to come here >.< I dont really know of too many screamo bands that are active right now. But some of the modern screamo bands Ive heard just sound like they want to play nothing but slow tempo'd power chords for 5 minutes straight and scream over it which bores me, it seems like they're doing the same thing that bands do with breakdowns i.e. play everything stereotypical from the genre that they're trying to imitate.

yeah, thats me...and our ep will be out sometime, we'll definitely let you know when. it seems like most modern ones just want to play octave "chords" all day and it that. Orchid already did that, most of these bands could use some originality. I'll be people are saying the same thing about my band. oh well.

Are we thinking of the same band, the seeing means more that put out "six"?

Because they do scream...

and he was in the Locust? What a tool. The Locust are easily the worst "band" of all time. I love how pretending to play your instruments is lauded by scene kids today.

CAPTAIN CAVEMAN 11-04-2007 12:26 PM

yeah he was. Lead singer, maybe the bass player too. not sure.

he was the lead singer in Swing Kids as well.

and some other bands.

hardly. most of the vocals are sung/really throaty. are you trying to tell me they are like most screamo bands out there? because his vocal approach is very different.

and JP is the bass player for the Locust.

yeah, I was going to say, he actually does (or did) like the fewest amount of vocals in the band. I don't know how it is anymore, maybe he does more.

Yea heh, they tend to switch it up each album it seems, JP and Bobby do most of the vocals in New Erections. Joey barely sings anything =(.
