Get to Know You Thread

Since not that many people who post here post in the off-topic forum, it's hard (for me, at least) to get a good idea of some of the people who post here are. Post a little bit about yourself (location, stuff you like, favourite bands, etc), maybe it will help the community a bit.

I'll start with myself -

My name is Mackenzie, and I'm from Canada. I'm not sure exactly when I started listening to emo, but surely less than some people, somewhere around a year, a year and a half. I've done a lot of listening in that time though. I enjoy creating art, reading, writing, going to shows, and in general anything that has to do with that sort of stuff.

Tell us about yourself!

(This thread is specifically for people interested in emo ( http://www.musicbanter.com/hardcore-...on-thread.html ), just incase you didn't get that)

sleepy jack 12-20-2007 05:29 PM

My name is Ethan, and I'm from Washington (state). I started listening to emo in late 2005 I think, whenever A_Perfect_Sonnet registered. He, swim and I then turned this from a pop forum into a legit forum. I don't really post here anymore because the only emo albums I listen to are ones I've had forever like Carpe Diem is Fucking Dead, You Pull the Strings That Make Us Dance, La Decadence De La Decadence, etc. I like reading and writing and I mainly listen to like, Elliott Smith, Carissa's Wierd, Morrissey, Okkervil River, Patrick Wolf, Hello Saferide, etc right now.

Hello my name is Catie(lulz yes i r a gurl fo re4l) and I'm from North Carolina. The first emo album I ever listened to was Falling Forward-Hand Me Down so that's why I sweat that so hard but in retrospect it's more melodic hardcore, whatever. When I came to this board I really didn't like screamo but I liked standard 90s stuff and Ethan got me into screamo. And I was into that for a long while and then chickendude and started talking about stuff I'd never even heard of and sparked some curiosity about weird 90s stuff so that's what I listen to now. My favorite color is green. I like to book shows and write crappy songs and go to shows and release albums for friends.

bardonodude 12-20-2007 08:30 PM

My name is Brandon, Im 20 years old from Baltimore. The first taste of emo I ever heard was Wow Owls! like 3 years ago and I really dug them. Then I got introduced to Love Like...Electrocution and just went from there basically. I am graduating from college this semester as an English Major. I love to listen to music (of course), play guitar, of course hang out with kew peeps, play world of warcraft, go to shows that are worth my time, get to know some of the people that play the music that I like and write a whole bunch of different stuff.

Im getting a turntable finally so I can finally start buying all those kickass only vinyl releases woot woot. Thats pretty much it about me that there is to know =).

If anyone wants to know more about me, here is my space

my name is francis maria (both first names). i'm from DC, Philippines. i do vocals for a band called Caitlyn Bailey. i'm an international studies student at a local university, and i got into emo around late 2005 because someone recommended i listen to Orchid since i liked Converge so much. i started listening to better music since i got to Musicbanter and got faster internet. eventually, i started grabbing albums off the internet like crazy, and i started organizing and going to hardcore shows. right now, i listen to a lot of powerviolence/thrashcore/hardcore punk with streaks of grindcore, crust and some post-rock on the side.

i also run an e-zine which is at Limp Cat Productions E-Zine

Evening, My name is Jake, I'm 18, I live with my girlfriend in a one bedroom flat in Wales, I listen to a large array of genre's with no one specific really. Stuck for a name for the sort of stuff i listen to but, e.g the wildhearts, monster magnet, therapy?, turbonegro, Iggy & the stooges, Juliette lewis & the licks, A perfect circle, and so on.

weleasewoger72 12-21-2007 05:08 AM

My name Is Steve or as the ladies like to call me Seismic Steve (I make the Earth move!). I don't know why I use Weleasewoger - it sounded funny at the time and I love Monty Python.
I currently reside in Oxford, UK but have lived in California, Brighton, Nottingham, and Torquay.
I first got into Hardcore when I was 5 yrs old - I found a German porn video under his bed. But then I discovered emo/screamo/hardcore in the early-mid 90's and have been hooked ever since. I also listen to 90's indie/shoegaze from the UK, and anything Indie that has been remixed.

Oh...... and I love TORQUAY UNITED aka Brazil of the West Country!

NEXT.......

My name is Kevin. I live in Lucena city, Philippines. I'm 16 years old. Currently a 3rd year high school student. I listen to lots of bands from lots of different genres. Thats all.

acratertocoffin 12-21-2007 08:23 PM

I'm Bill, I'm 20 years old from upstate New York. My first "emo" album was Circle Takes the Square "As the Roots Undo".
I really don't post here all that often anymore because of the lack of a sharing thread and my life has been really hectic. I'm the music director at WCVF Fredonia Radio and I DJ two shows, one a horror movie review/metalcore show, and the other was a strictly emo show, but now I just play whatever I want. ...yea!

I am adam and I'm from sorta baltimore sorta dc. Back to baltimore in a few months. I started listening to emo in or around 2000 when this kid gave me a pg.99 and a majority rule cd cos both bands were local. I checked out them and then a few years later started to get really into other DC bands and then it spread from there. It also helped me get into a lot of other experimental bands and what not. I enjoy photography and reading and listening to a lot of music.

xcassiusx 12-26-2007 11:50 AM

Okay, so I'm finally doing this.

Hey there. My name is Kyle, and I'm 18 years old. I reside in Omaha, Nebraska (put your finger in middle of a U.S. map, and there I am). I've been listening to emo/screamo bands for 3 years or so. I've been listening to Punk Rock since 3rd grade when I was introduced to Pailhead, Black Flag, and Suicidal Tendencies (thanks Skateboarding videos!). I've been playing drums for nearly 3 years now. I'm currently not in a band, and wish to someday start some screamo band here, but doubt it'll happen, hah. I'll give anything a listen but I'm mostly fond of screamo, emo, indietronic pop, conscious rap, melodic death metal, and a lot of other small various things (plenty of classical on occasions). I'm huge into politics and social issues as well.

I don't have a clue what I'll be doing after High school. I mean, I want to go do college, but I'm almost out of motivation and am just too tired. Music has always been a major part of my life, but as for holding down a "steady job" I'm interested in Political Science, and am probably going to at least get a degree in History.

i just recently got an album by the academy is... and i love em. they get better each time.

Kevorkian Logic 12-26-2007 02:14 PM

I'm Sarah Wesley, it's a double first name which confuses a lot of people. Like Catie I am from North Carolina and joined a little less than a year ago. If music taste were college majors i'd major in Math rock with a minor in post-rock. This site has helped me broaden my interest in jazz a bit. I also play the viola and violin, but I have stemmed off playing them as much recently. I try to be open to most music and according to last.fm I am pretty open.

Oh, and my 18th birthday is tomorrow, so yea.

Anyone can set their genre on myspace, it only shows that the bands themselves are ignorant.

under 12-26-2007 03:44 PM

well...those bands are emo easily though, you have to agree. and he asked me what my favorite emo bands were. he didnt ask me what my favorite "only emo" bands were. so i gave him a list that concieved of some emo vibe to it.

Don't you tell me those bull**** bands are emo - you have no idea what you are talking about. Read the education thread and **** off.

EDIT: No, you do not "have to agree". Listen to some real emo and you will realise how wrong you are.
