Portraits Past and Sunny Day Real Estate are always good places to start.

try listening to Caitlyn Bailey if you're a metalcore fan transitioning into screamo sensibilities.

Texas is the Reason is the definition of mediocre and if he's heard Mineral, Christie Front Drive and Promise Ring he's heard Sunny Day Real Estate. Also they're called Portraits OF Past. This is why people who don't know anything about emo should not be running around giving recommendations.

Anyway I suggest: Spectres, The Kidcrash, Bells on Trike, Suis La Lune, Histories (formerly With Horses in Her Eyes), State Route 522, Montcalm, Navio Forge, Et Tu Brute, Moss Icon, Cease Upon the Capitol, Don Martin 3, Frail, Gospel, and Amanda Woodward.
