I can truly assure you that that is not the only reason people like Minor Threat.

They are one of the key bands in the development of early American hardcore and people regard them as such. I'd say that makes them accurately rated, not overrated. They were a great, energetic band and you can't exactly fault them for being so influential that their style of playing became commonplace over the ensuing decades.

Embrace was a million times better than Minor Threats. They had just as big if not bigger role in the development of Hardcore.

Embrace are good and all, but there's no competition.

Minor Threat is Ian Mackaye's best pre-Fugazi band by a considerable amount.

Haha, what?
If you had said Teen Idles, maybe, but you'd still be wrong.

Also, Embrace sucked too.

The Evens is where it's at.

I liked minor threat before I listened to any of this diy stuff. but I agree with alfred to a certain extent. People name drop them just to have some cred. same thing with *cringe* black flag. I hated when I would be on campus at my university and kids my age would still be talking about how good damaged was. Dude, there is a music community out there that is alive and way more hardcore than that band could ever be. I understand that they were a necessary step, but come on, dont act like they're hotter than the **** that is exiting your tight little ******* because I hate to break it to you but it isnt.

you're allowed to like bands without delving into scenes that sprang up because of them, you know. College kids with no real interest in hardcore can like Damaged, big f'uckin deal dude. I'd take Black Flag or Minor Threat over anything Orchid ever did any time.

lol i know, that was kind of cool, to be into them, I did like a lot of punk but not many other bands from that time frame. I have no idea how I found out about them ( oh wait yeah, I do, sublime talked about them a lot). but nonetheless, I dont know, the point I was trying to make is that people talk about black flag like they were the only good hardcore band, and they were clueless to all of the other good bands out there. I don't really like black flag, minor threat or orchid that much. There are way better bands that just were'nt as big as they were imo.
