what if you cant get it in a record store?

online music is a great breakthrough for bands that are trying to be heard. websites like soulseek, hxcmp3.com, purevolume, and even myspace do nothing but help bands.

besides it is mostly bands that benefit from online music that are listened to online. and the bands that do loose money normally have enough of it not to worry about it.

I have a friend who works in the music industry. He says that if you were to buy a bands t shirt & download the album instead of just buying the album , that band actually makes more money from the t shirt than the album.

Of course you should. It's good to mention support since it's inevitably going to be brought up when I mentioned p2p. You should always support local, DIY, or indie music if you want the music that you like to continue.

Sounds what some labels might do to signed bands. I end up usually walking away with shirts and cd's though.

Purevolume is a good website.

Thanks for suggesting Soulseek. It has a better interface than DC++. Besides, the ability to make a wishlist would make any p2p great in my opinion.
