The "Emo sucks ass" thread

This is just a thread where you can bash all the proclaimed "emo bands"...which ones suck the most balls might you ask?

MCR
Fall Out Boy
Bullet for my Valentine

I could go on and on, but how in the hell did this sort of music become popular anyway? It's like they took Kurt Cobain's mentality and then just pussified it...

LOL could not agree with you more.

I will lay off from naming the bands/artists though since there are quite a few that I like and my mates don't and vice versa but each to his own I guess.

Rickenbacker 09-05-2009 08:46 AM

False.

Theres many problems with this, some of the bands that they label emo hold slight post-emo influences but a lot of those influences they have are not from the original emo movement at all, and are from that the post-emo bands drew from elsewhere. In addition to that the genre itself has no set standards, it seems to be alot of times set by the clothes the band wears or what they decide is emo. Bands they label emo have ranged from heavily prog influenced Coheed and Cambria, to singer/songwriter Bright Eyes, to metalcore act Norma Jean to pop bands like Panic! At The Disco and My Chemical Romance.

Well you can tell by the title that it wasn't something you were going to like. If these guys want to talk about it, so be it. This thread prevents the spamming of other threads.

SATCHMO 09-05-2009 08:56 AM

Ok that's a good point biggie. I'll open this back up & grab a bucket of popcorn

Lol...man I feel like you think I just came here to deliberately troll...well that is not the case but I'm just sick of people who listen to the bands I mentioned who call themselves emo

gunnels 09-05-2009 08:58 AM

Atleast he's going to read the emo education thread. Most don't even give it a chance.

Baron Somebody 09-05-2009 08:59 AM

Ok, scratch the original title, I feel totally ignorant and stupid...rename it as "Whiny pop bands suck ass" lol

gunnels 09-05-2009 09:01 AM

Sounds like a plan I can agree with.

And don't worry a lot of us have rocky beginnings here.

Dr.Seussicide 09-05-2009 09:02 AM

Wow, I swear I saw the name of this thread and I was ready to kick ass, lol. At least now you guys know better :D

I think in reality I just hate the whiny teens who think they are depressed that label themselves as "emo" because they think it is cool...I also hate people who think "OMG I'M SO BADASS BECAUSE I LISTEN TO SLIPKNOT AND ICP HEE HEE HEE HEE HEE"

You have to give me a break though lol, I'm mainly a psychedelic/indie guy so I know nothing of emo except for the people you generally see in malls and such

Oh believe me I'm a huge indie fan as well, and very much into psychedelic rock and shoegaze. You'll definitely expand your horizon here on MB.

I actually listen to a bit of everything, here's my list I have compiled

(* means one of my top five)

*The Doors
*SOAD
*Yeah Yeah Yeahs
*Jimi Hendrix
*Nirvana
The Velvet Underground
Led Zeppelin
Bob Marley
The Killers
Beck
Peter Tosh
Steel Pulse
Scarface
Ill Bill
Serj Tankian
Paramore (I know, I am ashamed as well, but I haven't listened to them lately)
Howlin Wolf
Jefferson Airplane
Cream
The Beatles (Rubber Soul and onward)
Slayer (only occasionally though)
Rage Against the Machine
Primus

How's that list for ya? :tramp:

Dr.Seussicide 09-05-2009 09:22 AM

Yep, it looks like a pretty diverse list, a lot of classic rock, lol. But a good list nonetheless.

right-track 09-05-2009 09:22 AM

This thread should be worth a few bans. :D

What's wrong with classic rock? To me The Doors, Jimi, and The Vlevet Underground don't sound dated at all

Dr.Seussicide 09-05-2009 09:28 AM

I never said anything was wrong with the Classic Rock, just that they seem to predominate your list is all, lol. It's good music anyways, I've just weaned off of it in recent times.

Baron Somebody 09-05-2009 09:30 AM

A bunch of those bands I haven't listened to in ages, like Cream, and Jefferson Airplane

Pillowmint 09-06-2009 08:11 AM

What does "Emo" even refer to anymore? Nowadays when i hear people call something emo it is usually deathcore bands like Job for a Cowboy. I have heard nothing about whiny bands that i would have associated with emo, and there are no "emo kids" at my school...

Zen 09-06-2009 09:09 AM

The term "emo" sucks ass for the most part.

bardonodude 09-06-2009 10:38 AM

emo is a bastardized term that hasnt been used correctly since mainstream record labels used it to market the generic bands they put out.

has anyone ever listened to Grade before? They kind of started the whole neo-emo thing but did it pretty sweet. i know a lot of people call scenesters emo, gah.

alliteration 09-06-2009 11:59 AM

yeah, well you're emo.

VeggieLover 09-06-2009 12:36 PM

Ahhhhhh how is MCR the first band mentioned on this terrible thread!!!!!!!

If you don't like whiney then you can dis the "emo" kids themselves, but not my precious MCR!!!!!

My chemical romance was one of the first bands that opened my eyes to the world of music (among others of different genres). Their lyrics tell a story, and its not all just complaining. Their harmonies and intrumental storytelling are far from "whiney." In fact, a few of their songs are actually quite humourous (listen to blood, i think its called).

If you're going to dis a band, thats your opinion and go for it, but you should at least provide some kind of support for your opinion.

*goes and sits in a corner with hair in face*

jk, i just thought id add that in there. :)

SATCHMO 09-06-2009 12:36 PM

I'm so glad I didn't lock this thread (where's that convoluted sarcasm smilie?)

VeggieLover 09-06-2009 12:39 PM

me too, although I'll probably end up making a fool out of myself like i always do. Oh well. *grins expectantly*

Farfisa 09-06-2009 01:07 PM

I went to guitar center today and asked a dude for a good overdrive pedal for shoegaze type stuff. Well, he looked at me funny and asked what bands were shoegaze and My Bloody Valentine popped in my head and I went with it and he said "Oh, the metal band?". Thank you Bullet For My Valentine... go **** yourself and your stupid ****ing fans.

Urban Hat€monger ? 09-06-2009 01:09 PM

Sounds like you just hate people associating themselves with labels. I hate Fallout Boy too, but not enough to go telling other people how much their music sucks. If I don't like it I say it, but don't crucify them. We've all labeled ourselves before and there's no exception to the rule.

peace,
