The Emo Album Club Suggestion Thread
Three weeks ago, Mankycaant suggested in the Announcement forum that we should start an emo album club. The Hardcore & Emo forum is virtually dead, and needs to be resurrected. You know, like Frankenstein and his monster? From Manky's thread (this is merely an excerpt): Quote:
It seems that Manky is busy at the moment. Since I'm impatient, I asked Butthead and suggested that we should just start it without hesitating, and took the mission of starting this thread. Striking while the iron's still hot, is that the right usage of the saying? What is this thread for? Well, as the title says, this is the thread for suggestions. Do you have an album you want us to listen to? Post the name of the artist and album here. If you were the sole and only to suggest one, lucky you! We'll listen to your album. If multiple albums were suggested (please, only one album per person), we'll vote. This thread is also for any suggestions you may have regarding the club in general. More information The Emo Album Club Thread! Now, those of you who followed the original thread, don't kill me if I got any details wrong. This thread WILL be edited over time, since everything is not sorted out yet. We still need to start the official album club thread, and get the details straight. If you have any suggestions, feel free to post them. We need them. |
my suggestion is for a newer emo band i have just become aware of. ive yet to listen to this album and doubt others have either
you blew it! - grow up, dude |
Voting's until Friday. That's when Manky doesn't have university. Anyway, I second your vote since I haven't heard that one either.
|
Grow Up Dude is phenomenal, even though I've listened to it quite a few times I'd third that. Although Home After Three Months away is outstanding too.
If I had to make my vote count I'd vote for the Mineral album because it's the only one of the 3 I haven't heard yet. |
Vote for anything you want, or nominate a new one if you'd like to do that. The three I posted in the OP post were mostly for decoration. But if you want to vote for the Mineral one, I'm not going to stop you ;)
|
Ah okay, then I will nominate one then. I'll put up
Brave Bird - Maybe You, No One Else Worth It |
I'll second Charlemagne's nomination. I haven't heard it.
|
Alright, so currently Grow Up, Dude has 2 votes and Maybe You, No One Else Worth It has 2 votes, too. :)
Oh, and guys, do you think I should wait until Manky comes back before I start the official album club thread (if he doesn't do it, of course), or should I just go ahead and do it now, filling in the blank spaces later? |
Mankys lazy so just do it you're doin great so far
|
Yeah I agree you're doing fine. It's not like we're a particularly large group of users participating so any adjustments that are needed won't be that big of deal.
|
Alright folks, I'll start the thread as soon as I have time. If not today, probably tomorrow (I have a math test tomorrow and need to practise).
|
I say use this thread as a runnin suggestion box. Like after we do this first album take more suggestions here
|
I've started the official album club thread now, and done some edits to the OP post in this one (link there). I haven't gone over it very carefully yet, so if anything is missing or otherwise needs correction (typos?), tell me and I'll fix it.
|
I'm really excited for this.
|
Me too, man! Can't wait till Friday! ;)
|
Go on then.

I'm not familiar with any of the albums so I will abstain from voting but I am really down for getting involved, aside from the really big bands I'm not well versed in Emo and to be honest I struggle with what really defines the genre - some discussion will enlighten me!
|
Hey quick idea everyone, maybe the people who nominate an album could provide a mini-description of the album to make voting easier for everyone? Any artist alumni, where they're from, how many members are in the band, when they formed, if it's a debut album - all that sort of stuff.

Where are the perimeters? Is Screamo included?
|
I think the only requirement is that the album has to be considered "emo". I think we'll focus mainly on the second and fourth waves, but I'm sure screamo is welcome too.

Wild Moth - Over, Again http://wildmoth.bandcamp.com/ Free to stream, 6$ to DL. Came out late last year. So it's not explicitly emo but they tour with emo bands and have a pretty obvious post hardcore influence on a lot of tracks, in addition to a ton of other influences that meld together for one unique sound. I rep this band up as much as I can, they're great and deserve more attention. |
I'm going to suggest a brand new album that I just got that I'm really looking forward to listening to.
Modern Baseball - You're Gonna Miss It All http://media.tumblr.com/a8071a38a8c7...fB11qzxlbn.jpg |
My suggestion is Grow Up, Dude by You Blew It!

Also, I have a suggestion. We all know that the votes are supposed to be counted on every second Friday. Therefore, I suggest that anyone can count the votes and make official what album we will listen to. Yesterday I didn't have time to count the votes. If you see that the day is coming to an end and I have not yet counted the votes, feel free to do it yourself. If all albums got equally many votes, just pick the first one that was suggested. What do you guys think about that? For the next album, I suggest Park Jefferson's enonymous full-length. http://f0.bcbits.com/img/a0432025187_2.jpg It's available for free on bandcamp, (name your price). |

Are Modern Baseball worth getting into?
My flatmate's pretty high on them and they're one of the bands that's been sniffing around my last fm recommendations for some time. Any distinguishable characteristics to them/their music? |

Rainer Maria - Look Now Look Again Midwest Emo. That's a thing right? |

http://userserve-ak.last.fm/serve/50...0b7c84a278.jpg The Brave Little Abacus - Masked Dancers: concern in so many things you forget where you are This album is genuinely incredible, and I'd like everyone to listen to and evaluate it. Old school and new school sounding at the same time, with highly complex and intricate musicianship, experimental soundscapes, but still the catchiest songs a band can write. A whole lotta influences from 90's Cap'n Jazz style emo, mathcore, and some avant-garde. |
you played a track off it last night and I thought it was really good.
I'm all in favor of that being the next album we look at. |
Hello there !
I'd like to suggest an album but I'm really not sure if you could call it emo genre or just post-hardcore. (cause I don't really know how to define the emo style) So my suggestion is the album United by fates from the band Rival Schools. Walter Schreifels is the lead singer/guitarist, a big composer with a lot of influences. I've listened to this album like a million time and after listening the suggestion You blew it!, I thought it could be recommand for the emo album. Please tell me if I'm totally wrong ;) By the way, Grow up dude is really a cool album. Good voices and guitars sound like they have been taken from a math-rock band. Remind me American Football. I'd be glad to vote for them but maybe I'm too late. Have a good day guys ! |
Yeah it's a bit late to vote, since I'm counting the votes today, but if you want, you can nominate United for the next album. :)

i heard 'used for glue' awhile ago and forgot to check them out more. thanks for the reminder |
Ok guys si I nominate United by Fate by Rival Schools for the next vote !
Here is a link from youtube if you wanna listen to part of the album. youtube.com/watch?v=MqVUDA2TFtI |
Heh, one nomination. I'll make a United by Fate thread later.
|
I suggest Born to Whisper by Settler for the next album. The World is a Beautiful Place... claims it's the best 4th wave emo album out there.
