It's AS bad as the cover to First Impressions Of Earth.

I like it :(

Zer0 02-12-2011 02:49 PM

I don't. The colours and patterns just seem to clash and it's just cheap and tacky looking. Hopefully the music won't be as bad though.

Sansa Stark 02-12-2011 02:50 PM

The new single is pretty excellent, if that's anything to judge by

Zer0 02-12-2011 02:53 PM

I'm downloading it now as i type this. Gonna give it a couple of listens to see if i like.

Looks like the cover of an out-of-print 40-minute bleep-bloop excursion by Stockhausen to me.

Diff'rent strokes...

I agree, it's way too loud to the point that it was raping my eyes. horrible to have so many colors clash like that.

Janszoon 02-13-2011 08:23 AM

The Strokes have never released an album with anything more than mediocre cover art and this cover certainly upholds the tradition.

Flume 02-13-2011 10:00 AM

That album art is indeed meh. But I do like the sound of their new single - hopefully it's no new First Impressions!

Zer0 02-13-2011 03:13 PM

I like their new single. It sounds fresh and it's good that they're not just rehashing their past. I'm looking forward to this album now.

James 02-13-2011 03:19 PM

I like the art.

Queen Boo 02-15-2011 07:43 PM

The cover is nice but I thought the new single was pretty weinery.

Amphiptere 03-05-2011 04:24 AM

What did people here think of 'You're So Right'?

Lots of people are complaining that it doesn't sound like the strokes, but I think it is still strokesque, the guitars and drums have the same 'feeling' IMO. The vocals do sounds completely different though. Personally I prefer this to 'Under Cover of Darkness' (which I like a lot) because it's darker and new.

Everyone keeps saying it sounds a lot like Radiohead, but from what I can hear it is only similar in terms of subject matter, the actual music is different

Telephasic 03-05-2011 05:02 AM

I think 'You're So Right' really sounds like Julian's 'River of Brakelights'. I kind of like it I suppose, but it's not better than 'Under Cover of Darkness' imo. I think they just should've left it as a B-side.

Mojo 03-05-2011 06:27 AM

I haven't heard You're So Right yet, but I find it hard to believe that it sounds anything like Radiohead.

DreamingOfAlbion 03-06-2011 07:46 PM

I heard they were releasing a new album but honestly didn't have high hopes since I don't care much for the stuff they released after "Is This It." However, after seeing them on SNL last night, I will definitely be checking out this album. I absolutely loved "Under Cover of Darkness."

Sansa Stark 03-06-2011 08:04 PM

^ put yourself up for Newbie Adoption, I call dibs

Julian was so cute last night

If any of their songs sound like Radiohead I'm so done with The Strokes for this album and will just listen to their older albums.

Mojo 03-07-2011 07:07 AM

None of the tracks I have heard so far sound even anywhere close to Radiohead.

Sansa Stark 03-07-2011 07:48 AM

that's a good thing. I'm willing to give their new album a chance. I haven't looked it up but does anyone know the release date?

Sansa Stark 03-07-2011 08:50 AM

March 22 in the States but March 18th in like Sweden and Germany so probably just March 18th

djchameleon 03-07-2011 08:52 AM

I don't think Radiohead sound much like Radiohead these days to be fair.

mannny 03-12-2011 01:06 AM

Has Radiohead ever sounded like Radiohead? That's the real question... but that's for another thread. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to their new album. I'm also seeing them this summer so I've just been really getting back into The Strokes lately.

Anyone know what Undercover of Darkness is about?

Laser 05-10-2011 11:28 PM

No but I love the new album. Undercover of Darkness is incredible and I really like "You're so Right". I've heard some really good albums that came out this year and this is one of them. =D

By Julian himself:
Quote:

“It’s about someone who works in the military, and has a girlfriend. It’s cheesy, I guess, but it’s about having to leave a loved one. I weirdly like the bridge and the chorus of that Clarence Clemons song [‘You’re A Friend Of Mine’, a 1985 duet with Jackson Browne, and US Top 20 hit –’80s crap pop ed]: (sings) “Years may come and goooo!” So that was the vibe we were going for. I shouldn’t confess to these things!”

Howard the Duck 06-22-2011 07:35 AM

wasn't that impressed with them before but i really love the new album

OOS 06-24-2011 07:44 AM

Angles has grown off of me a little bit since it came out, but it's still a great album and much better then many people give it credit for.

aliciacc 06-29-2011 11:38 AM

I'm surprised at how much Angles have turned on poeple to the Strokes finally after all this time. It is a great amalgamation of their sounds, but i still think they should be enjoyed as a whole - all 4 albums in

lauraborealous 07-02-2011 10:50 PM

Angles is a good album, but it sounds completely different from what The Strokes originally sounded like, and in that aspect I don't like it.
I think that as a Strokes album, it isn't all that good, but as an album standing on it's own it is pretty amazing.
I'm quite taken to Taken For A Fool.

TheNiceGuy 07-21-2011 03:11 AM

I've only heard The Strokes first album in Is This It? but I admit their gritty sound is very well done. I also love how the vocalists (something Casablanca's?) voice fits in well with that sound.

I should probably catch up on a few more of their albums, to see if they lived up to their debut.

OOS 07-22-2011 12:47 PM

People tend to disagree with this, but I think that Room On Fire is even better then ISI.

BastardofYoung 07-22-2011 02:06 PM

^well, all that matters is that you believe it.
