With that logic, you're going to have a hard time to enjoy a lot of music out there. Considering there are a lot of bands upon even more bands that use the same techniques and riffs and influences of other bands.
What i'm picking up from what you're saying is that bands that use influences from other bands aren't amazing. Which is a very flawed theory, but you can believe what you want. |

I do not enjoy most music out there anyways. I think Alan Cross said it best "99% of all music is as disposable as your last starbucks coffee cup"
That is correct, I have found a few of the 1% exception in my time, but not many. The Strokes though are not one of them. Whatever, give it another 10 years and people will forget about em anyways.

But I also believe Indie is a pretty bland style of music to start with. A few gems out there, but most does nothing for me. So naturally I will hate it more, because it is a weak genre to me.

Not to mention if I judged everything on a per band basis, i would just be to willing to accept anything. Like to think how it holds up to pioneers and a bigger scene. Can repeat that with any band really. Next thing I will be saying "well it sucks, but by Nickelback standards it is top notch". That doesn't work.
