Absolutely love MBV and am so excited about the new LP that I do believe I am losing hair (not from my head, though...)

I didn't know about the "finished mastering" note. I, as many, can't help being quite sceptical :)

Euronomus 12-28-2012 06:10 AM

Even though it looks like this album is actually gonna see the light of day, I'm still not that excited. After this long and this many attempts to make a follow up I'd say there's a 50% chance it's going to be a mess, and a 25% chance it'll be good but not really a MBV album. Trying to come back after this long of an absence just seems like a bad idea to me. The only example I can think of such a thing working out is Swans, and imo they are a very different band now.

simoirs 12-28-2012 08:53 AM

I actually hope it's gonna be different, as it was Loveless when it came out. After all this is a big test for Kevin Shields: the '90s legends never released other era-defining masterpieces after their decade and he is the last one to try... I can't wait to see the result.

Euronomus 01-27-2013 08:21 PM

New track, quality isn't that good so it's kind of hard to judge, especially since a lot of what made them great was the production. For what it's worth it seems pretty much like what they always sounded like. Supposedly Shields claimed at this show that the album will be out in 3-4 days! I know he's planning on self releasing this one but it seems kind of odd to just drop such an anticipated album with no pre-marketing at all.

As if he needs pre-marketing. I'd say there's plenty of fans who know it's coming out soon, marketing wouldn't have much effect on the sales.

On another note: The song's been taken down due to copyright or whatever. Considering it got taken down before I could listen to it I'm pretty pissed off.

Kelli 01-28-2013 01:18 PM

Dang it. I wanted to listen to it now that I got home but I guess I'm late too.

Kelli 02-02-2013 09:04 PM

New Post-

Aaaaand the new album is amazing!

debaserr 02-02-2013 09:58 PM

Oshi. Good night just got better, thanks!

Gucci Little Piggy 02-03-2013 03:23 AM

I literally can't get over how amazing this album is. Considering all the hype it's easy to eb disappointed but instead, I love it even more than I thought I would. I sincerely doubt there'll be anything this year to top this.

simoirs 02-03-2013 11:13 AM

After 3 listens (and a mind-clearer walk after the 2nd) the fog dissolves and the songs come out in all their beauty. It could seriously be amazing, let's see.

Sneer 02-03-2013 02:38 PM

First impressions are very good... very good indeed. Only Tomorrow and In Another Way are amazing tracks. And I hate using the word amazing.

TockTockTock 02-03-2013 03:37 PM

I've listened to it two times now, and while it's a good album... it's not really anything to go crazy over.

Maybe it'll grow on me.

If there is, it's going to be a seriously amazing year. :yeah:

But yeah, despite all the overhype, I think most fans are happy with it.

duga 02-03-2013 08:57 PM

I'm still letting it all sink in but I can't complain one bit. It is a very worthy successor to Loveless. We all knew that couldn't be topped... Especially since it was fairly groundbreaking and so much has been done with shoegaze since then, but this is indeed a very damn good album. It walks a great balance of expanding and exploring just enough and giving us that signature My Bloody Valentine-ism that fans want in the first place.

I really haven't been this excited for an album for a long time... The slow burning opener was perfect to calm me down a bit. That was then followed by the most satisfying 40 minutes of music the I have heard in quite a while.

PoorOldPo 02-04-2013 05:05 AM

In Another Way is an absolute masterpiece. Its like trip hop, and the progressions are very unpredictable. It is really colourful.

Only 8027 days to go till the next album :tramp:

I just listened to Sometimes and while I liked the feel, it just seemed to drag out quite a bit... I don't think it's a bad song, actually for some reason I expected it to be ****ty, but it did impress me. Perhaps if someone could recommend one of their better songs as I've never bothered listening to them, it would be helpful to get more of an enlightened idea regarding their music.

Try this

My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow - YouTube

I respect that you at least give them a try, most people who wouldn't necessarily be drawn to this music would not even give it a chance. I like you Rjinn :)

Rjinn 02-16-2013 02:40 AM

That was much better. I like the odd sounding riffs. The vocals somewhat remind me of The Dandy Warhols. I should give this band more of a chance. Thanks Po!

It's been two months, and I still really like the new album. What are everyone's thoughts after a few months? "She Found Now" and "Who Sees You" are definite favorites.

Newkie 04-06-2013 05:37 PM

I'm not sure, I think the album has grown on me a bit but I'm still a bit disappointed in a way. Still pretty top notch though.

I've been listening to it approximately weekly. That may decrease but there's no diminishing returns as far as I'm concerned. To me, it's just the 3rd studio MBV LP - and I'll probably love it forever like I do the other two.

Zer0 04-07-2013 03:01 PM

Yeah it definitely holds up well to repeated listens. The album isn't as good as Loveless and they were never going to top Loveless. But what they did produce was a worthy follow-up to Loveless and I might even like it as much as Isn't Anything at the moment.

Favourite songs are 'She Found Now', 'New You' and 'Wonder 2'. 'She Found Now' is a brilliantly bittersweet introduction to the album and made me breath with a sigh of relief when it first hit my ears. 'New You' is probably the most accessible song on the album but Bilinda's dreamy and infectious vocals makes my heart melt. 'Wonder 2' is like nothing I've heard before. It's like listening to an MBV song while strapped to the roof of a plane that's performing loops and nose-dives and shit. Disorientating but in the best way possible.

I just ran across this..

Their performance isn't very different from when I saw them in 2009, which isn't strange I guess. There's also a short performance by Lush tacked on to the end of this video.

ProjectOne 02-16-2014 10:21 AM

i kinda think their meh

dca 02-17-2014 01:10 PM

That's because this thread is about MBV. This other one is about Swirlies:
