the songwriting isn't very good

neither is the mix and production

also, he didn't really put much effort into guitar textures

(i mean, as compared to "Loveless")

You do realise that the songwriting on Loveless is actually, on the whole, relatively simple? They're just straight up pop songs saturated in texture. I'd argue that the songwriting on Isn't Anything and You Made Me Realise is at least on par with the work on Loveless, the band is responsible for some consistently and at times monumentally good compositions from the late 80s.

I think saying Shields didn't put much effort into guitar textures compared to Loveless is a bit of a pointless thing to say, considering the fact that Loveless is a sonic exploration into the use of texture. Isn't Anything, You Made Me Realise, Feed Me With Your Kiss etc are different beasts. There's more of a focus on chords, atonality and dynamics. The feelings and moods the band were trying to evoke at the time were different (I recommend you read the interview from The Quietus for a better insight.) Yes, they shared the melodious, ethereal noise-as-art leanings of Loveless to an extent, but the focus differed - Loveless was Shields taking the previous experimentation down a new, more extreme path. You can say you don't like their previous work because it's a different sound, but to say there's no care in it is inaccurate, as far I'm concerned.

The one thing I will agree with you on is the production on Isn't Anything. The original release can sound a bit muddy.

Bump for new MBV music on the horizon.

Besides the remastered versions of both their albums and a second EP compilation, the lost post loveless album is finally back on, compiled from the previously discarded recordings from the 90s. Also, an EP with brand new tracks is scheduled.

Also, to the previous argument, Isn't Anything is a ****ing masterpeice. I consider it to be a much better album that Loveless, though Loveless is pretty rad as well. Isn't anything, relative to its size, is probably the greatest thing done by MBV. Everything from the Strawberry Wine/Ecstasy Era that had budget(so not the second half of Ecstasy) was quality. Amazing alternative pop melodies driven forth my maddening noise which would eventually transform into the minimalistic, yet extremely experimental loveless. Few bands deserve the praise these guys earn.

Their level of genius allows me to say with confidence that MBV is just too far above anyone who cant appreciate them. Not all music is supposed to be easy to get into. If you want easy, listen to the radio. Hollywood pop artists and post grunge bands have mastered the art of easy, mindless listening.

Halfway through mixing and it's due in a month? I don't see that happening.

Looks like it will actually be released though.

I won't believe it until I get my hands on it. More than likely it will be pushed back to early next year or something like that.

The music is recorded, and most of it has been for some time, the album is in the mixing process. Read the article posted above. If the album wasn't recorded then we're going to be waiting much longer than next month.

Hoping for the new album to actually be released, although...

I'm guessing it won't come out until early-mid next year.

I highly doubt it will be finished mixing by the end of this year, let alone one month.
