If You're Feeling Sinister has always been my favorite and I still listen to it on the regular. Can't say the same for any of their others though.
Lazy Line Painter Jane is also really good - I should dig it out more often.

loveissucide 11-02-2009 12:14 PM

I heart Belle & Sebastian very much, and in order of preference I'd put them as If You're Feeling Sinister>Dear Catastrophe Waitress>The Life Pursuit>The Boy With The Arab Strap>Tigermilk

Oh hell yeah, I totally forgot I had to d/l this!

TheCunningStunt 06-23-2010 02:27 PM

I finally got round to listening to my first B&S the other day, it wasn't bad.

James 06-23-2010 02:33 PM

tbh, I feel like i'm growing out of B&S, I think i've overplayed them.
I was listening to BMX Bandits the other day and just thought "Wow as far as indie pop goes this is miles better than B&S".
They just no longer interest me, Sure I still like them but they've went down by a large margin in my top bands.

Ooooh look at me! look at me!

I'm James, I grow out of Belle & Sebastian soon as TheCunningStunt listens to them.

Pathetic James. Pathetic.

P.s The Boy With The Aarab Strap was decent. :D

Haha sheerly coincidence.
And aye it's a great album.
Highlights:Title Track, It Could've Been Brilliant Career, Seymour Stein

I saw the BMX Bandits live two weeks ago, they put on a great show! They're a good band, but that said, I do think Belle & Sebastian are much better on record.

My favourite Belle & Sebastian album will always be Tigermilk, but the first three are all top notch.

I can't remember my highlights but I liked It Could've Been A Brilliant Career and the Title Track a lot.

Might listen to Fold Your Hands Child now.

Oh lord, Jealous!
The thing about BMX Bandits is though, their albums are really hard to get a hold of, I have two and I cannot for the life of me find the rest!

Surely a new album this year will solve the overplay problem.

I have the same problem, I've actually only heard one of their albums. My flatmate has quite a lot of their 7'' records so I've heard lots of other songs, but I don't really know much about them other than that the album I have is pretty great, and they're really fun live!

When is B&S's new album out? Never even knew about it!

I don't think there is a release date yet.

Charlemagne 06-29-2010 06:17 PM

Hooray new B&S album! I am really looking forward to that one.

Onei 07-02-2010 05:40 AM

I have always intended to buy some Belle & Sebastian but never quite got round to it. Can anyone recommend an album or two of theirs that they consider to be their best please?

Tikermilk and The Boy With The Aarab Strap, both brilliant. The Boy With The Aarab Strap is the one I started with.

If You're Feeling Sinister is the place to start.

James 07-05-2010 03:18 PM

tbh I think any album(with the exception of Storytelling which is for band devotees only) is a good starting point for them. They are all that great.

No, defintely go with Sinister, Tiger Milk, or Arab Strap first. If I'd heard anything but these first then I doubt I would've listened to more

TheCunningStunt 07-05-2010 03:57 PM

Aarab Strap is the clear winner.

For me, Sinister is the best. I consider Arab Strap '2nd best' I guess.

James 07-05-2010 04:05 PM

I feel bad for the band Arab Strap I love 'em to death. But whenever the words Arab Strap are mentioned people think of Belle And Sebastian.

TheCunningStunt 07-05-2010 04:06 PM

Yeah, the band Aarab Strap have a rough end of the deal. I don't like them though, so fuck 'em.

You can't say you dislike a band when you haven't heard a full album.

I don't like them, but I don't dislike them. Indifferent.

Zer0 07-05-2010 05:50 PM

The Boy With The Arab Strap is indeed the best B&S album, it just hits the spot nicely.

Hopefully they'll release a new album this year *crosses fingers*

Zoe 07-06-2010 05:04 PM

I actually fell in love with B&S thanks to this album. It's so joyful! I mean Life in Pursuit
Then The Boy With The Arab Strap. Colour my life with chaos of trouble:)

Public Enemy 07-06-2010 05:41 PM

Everytime I hear Belle and Sebastian I think of the movie High Fidelity

I have known several people who tell me this.
I can't put my finger on it but I like If You're Feeling Sinister a lot more (I honestly may not even like the band if not for that album). I've tried to understand this a bunch of times but always come up nil

SGR 06-30-2013 07:24 PM

Just started getting into B&S. Liking what I'm hearing. I need to pick up Boy With the Arab Strap from the sounds of it though.

What albums have you been listening too?

^Sinister mostly.

Very nice. That's their best, The Boy With The Arab Strap and The Life Pursuit are both pretty great too. I never enjoyed their other records as much.

Zer0 07-01-2013 02:17 PM

Am I the only one who prefers Tigermilk to If You're Feeling Sinister? To me at least Tigermilk seems to have the better songs and flows better as a whole. I still think that The Boy With The Arab Strap is their masterpiece.

Listen to the EPs Dog On Wheels, Lazy Line Painter Jane and 3..6..9 Seconds Of Light. Some of their EPs are nearly better than their albums.

I enjoy Tigermilk quite a bit actually, I think the musicianship is better in that record. And you're probably right, I heard they have some awesome EP's. Didn't they have a B-side album?

It's not exactly a b-side album but Push Barman To Open Old Wounds is a collection of all their EPs and singles up to 2005. Well worth getting.

SGR 07-02-2013 05:02 AM

What makes Arab Strap better than Sinister for you, Zer0?
