Athens Georgia would be a very important scene to add. It's famous for fostering acts such as The B-52's, The Whigs, Danger Mouse, Jucifer, Vic Chesnutt, Drive-By Truckers, Elf Power, The Fountains, Neutral Milk Hotel, The Sunshine Fix, Bubba Sparxxx, The Olivia Tremor Control, Of Montreal, Five Eight, King of Prussia, Jet by Day, and R.E.M.

How come Beck wasn't posted at all? Is he not considered indie?

would all innovative music not count as indie then? and in turn, every new band would be labled "indie"

i believe an indie band is independant, unsigned to a major label and uncorrupted by cheesy production that sabotages some really promising bands.

I'd argue it comes under the genre criteria set out in the first post.
