I'm just now starting to get into them. I just got their self-titled and "You Forgot It In People." They're quickly becoming one of my most played bands. And I'm seeing them at Lollapalooza!

I got "You Forgot It In People" a few months ago, and quite liked it. What album should I get next?

Maple Leaves 08-31-2008 09:28 AM

'Broken Social Scene' is the best one to go for next. It's much more similar to You Forgot it in People than Feel Good Lost is.

I don't know about other people, but when I bought Spirit if it didn't really click with me, and I thought it would over time, but it still hasn't :S

Brendan Canning > Kevin Drew

they have 4 or 5 really great songs then the rest are kind of "forget about it".

A good friend of mine was reminiscing about this band and how pure their music is.

Any good albums out there?

debaserr 08-31-2008 10:52 PM

i would start with You Forgot It In People

adidasss 09-01-2008 02:16 AM

I can't believe I've been living under the assumption that their self titled was their debut all these years. I kept thinking You forgot it in people was an EP or something...sigh. I wonder if it's half as good as the self titled....and when the fuck are they gonna record a proper album? I'm sick of all this BSS presents crap, none of it is very good...

definitely.

I only own their self titled album, i dont think its amazing but its pretty good.

I really want to pick up the Drew Canning one; I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I listened to their first three albums over the weekend, and I'm wondering if it took anybody else a few listens to really get into them? I really dug the debut, Feel Good Lost, but since I'm into post-rock that really didn't surprise me. I had really high hopes for You Forgot It In People, which from what I read was this magical compilation of indie pop songs in the same vein as Stars, one of my favorite indie bands, but the first listen was just flat disappointing. It felt like a lot of the songs had potential, but were just duds. Just didn't really go anywhere. One of my bigger letdowns musically as I was really geared up to like this album. Their self-titled had a little bit more appeal, but never really got my attention either. Don't really understand as I feel like they should be right up my musical alley.

I'll definitely give both albums another listen sometime this week to see if they grow on me, but I'm kinda bummed at the moment lol.

new album leaked about a week ago it seems. just getting it now.

adidasss 04-19-2010 03:34 PM

Yeah, I just streamed it somewhere. Sounds pretty samey on the first listen. The standout track is the one with the chick for now.

I just actually listened to them for the first time a couple weeks ago as well. I got You Forgot it in People, I liked it on the first listen but was really disappointed based on everything I heard about it before. After a couple listens though, it's definitely improved in my ears. You just never really know with music, I find a lot of times albums that based on everything I've ever heard, I should love, but can't get into at all.

I love the Broken Social Scene so much. I just streamed their newest album (Forgiveness Rock Record) and absolutely love it. I will definitely be purchasing this album on May 4th. Also, I can't wait to hear that second album that comes with it (Lo-Fi For The Dividing Nights). All in all, this is one of my favorite bands and I thoroughly enjoy the side projects of contributing members (Stars, Metric, Feist, Do Make Say Think, Years) too.

As a matter of fact, I'll go listen to them now.

jacklovezhimself 04-28-2010 12:21 PM

I am very much in love with this band. They're coming to the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago which I will be happily attending, hopefully as close to the magic as possible....and when I say magic, I mean MAGIC.

By the way, has anyone here seen them live?

Yeah for sure. I made that post last July, since then I've slowly gotten more and more into them. Still need to listen to Forgiveness Rock Record.
