Broken Social Scene

I was surprised when I searched for a thread about this band and didn't find one. I know there has been talk about them.

I love BSS's smooth flowing sound, and clever lyrics. They seem to have evolved from their first album for the better. I don't think I'll ever get tired of hearing "Pacific Theme."

So, discuss your favorite album, songs, or anything in general you like about the band.

Thefiresoutinthehospital 11-09-2005 02:40 AM

I love this band as well, guilty cubicles, although short and completely instrumental is one of my all time favourite songs, there flow is completly unsurpassed.
wow, basicly.

IndiElectronica 11-09-2005 04:16 AM

quite like this band - but the new album has not gown on me too much I must admit... not bad mind, just a bit more average...

Jonah 11-09-2005 06:30 AM

I hear a TON about this band....I hear about them about as much as Dashboard....but I've never listened to them. Maybe I will when I have free time.

IndiElectronica 11-09-2005 08:21 AM

best album is You Forgot It in People

Another band for people to look into that's similar to this band is Sparklehorse. Best album is Good Morning Spider

hookers with machineguns 11-10-2005 01:54 PM

I've probably mentioned this before, but they have such a corny ass band name, but do what they do very well.
Shampoo Suicide, Pacific Theme, Stars and Sons, Cause=Time are all good songs off You Forgot It in People. I think any true indie fan would appreciate that album.

IndiElectronica 11-10-2005 04:13 PM

corny name?! hell - they are about average in these days I think.

I present my case:

Death Cab for Cutie
Say Hi To Your Mom
Poop Your Pants
Nuetral Milk Hotel

I rest my case your honor...

Expletive Deleted 11-10-2005 04:23 PM

BSS are easily one of my favorite bands. Just saw them the other day, they're amazing live.

SHTYM is the worst. I don't really care much for their music either. I don't know Poop Your Pants, but i'm assuming they rock and roll with a name like that.

IndiElectronica 11-11-2005 03:45 AM

I really like SHTYM actually.... really fun/quirky indiepop. Most all of their better songs you can hear here fyi - http://www.sayhitoyourmom.com/music.htm

As for Poop Yer Pants - is more or less the same kinda indiepop - tho a bit more mainstream... they sent me their cd and T-shirt for my station. Not quite sure what to do with the T to be honest - lol...

hookers with machineguns 11-12-2005 08:36 AM

^ I love your radio station man. Very good playlist.

IndiElectronica 11-14-2005 06:29 AM

cool! glad ya like it! any/all feedback or recomendations greatly appreciated... It's just me and big playlist running the whole thing so all the help I can get is appreciated! (especially in spreading the word)

adidasss 12-04-2005 02:55 PM

Broken Social Scene

You Forget it in People and the To be you and me EP may be the greated LP and EP that I have ever heard. Such calming, beautiful music. :hphones:

IndiElectronica 04-12-2006 08:37 AM

that is a great album! Their new one is a bit... well.. noisy/busy but still quite good (it's the self-titled album). I saw BSS a couple months ago and it was very, very good! The songs off their new album made much more 'sense' and were even more enjoyable live. They are back in a couple months and highly recommend you seeing them! At one point they had 6 (!!) guitarists playing at the same time ;)

BSS is a candian 'collective' band with nearly 20 members. Their last tour had about 9 people - more info here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Broken_Social_Scene

One thing that some people don't know is that in Canada you need at least 8 members in a band to get goverment funding. That's one main reason these bands have so many members...

Off shoot bands include the Likes of Stars, The Dears, Metric, and Do Make Say Think.

Just saw the Stars a few months ago and they were also very good. Lastly, just got Amy Millan's new solo album in from the label but not heard it yet...

sleepy jack 04-12-2006 12:36 PM

adidasss had me check 'em out awhile ago I liked a few of their songs.

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-12-2006 12:50 PM

I think they`re alright.

Crap name though , put me off listening to them for months.

because of a name?

Urban Hat€monger ? 04-12-2006 03:05 PM

Yes , it sounds like the sort of name some crappy emo band would have.

cardboard adolescent 04-12-2006 04:18 PM

I have their S/T and it's pretty decent.

crow t robot 04-12-2006 09:46 PM

I've been listening to You Forgot It In People a lot lately..great album! I seem to lose track of time when it's playing

swim 09-06-2006 06:39 PM

I think S/T is a really good album.

IndiElectronica 09-07-2006 03:55 AM

i just saw them again a couple weeks ago in oxford... wasn't nearly as good as the last time I saw them.

Also - they are more or less breaking up to pursue their other bands - so see them while you can!!

The Dave 09-15-2006 09:24 AM

That sucks, I have their self titled album, it's really good.

spencermiles 09-22-2006 02:40 PM

Agreed, forgot it in people is absolutely amazing, as is their self-titled.

swim 03-29-2008 03:44 PM

I'm still your fag is Ethan's theme song.

sleepy jack 03-29-2008 03:45 PM

Oddly enough...<.<

blankpagespeaks 04-07-2008 03:59 PM

I've been getting into post-rock recently, and BSS are one of the many awesome groups I've been listening to. I don't own any of their material, but that will hopefully soon change, as the mp3's I have are fantastic.

sleepy jack 04-07-2008 04:01 PM

Broken Social Scene aren't post-rock?

Rubber 04-07-2008 04:34 PM

ooooops

That, minus the question mark.

blankpagespeaks 04-09-2008 12:38 PM

Okay, so I'm admittedly horrible with sub-genres, and still new to Broken Social Scene. What are they classified as?

The Dave 04-10-2008 01:33 AM

Some seem to want to call them Prog, but I just feel that Indie suits it better. And their ST is still my favorite album of theirs, such a light and catchy feel to it.

blankpagespeaks 04-10-2008 08:43 AM

Thanks. I might look into getting their S/T. Anymore albums of theirs that are must-haves?

Rubber 04-10-2008 03:27 PM

I always describe their sound as prog musicians playing indie pop.

blankpagespeaks 04-11-2008 09:18 AM

Haha, nice.

Vehemently Agree...

SammyJay 07-09-2008 07:39 PM

I'm just now starting to get into them. I just got their self-titled and "You Forgot It In People." They're qucily becoming one of my most played bands. And I'm seeing them at Lollapalooza!
