It's not exactly sad, but Syd Barrett's 'Long Gone' always sends a chill down my spine. Such a great, underrated track of his.

"Company Calls Epilogue" by Death Cab for Cutie

This song gets to me every time. Gibbard is a master storyteller...

Yes he is... and the way Death Cab's music and lyrics gel together always seems to get to me too... songs like Styrofoam Plates from the Photo Album have a tency to leave me all choked up with emotion... brilliant songwriting, IMO...

The Photo Album, The Forbidden Love EP, Transatlanticism, and Plans all have such great emotion in it. I just couldn't find it in Narrow Stairs... The Ice is Getting Thinner just didn't cut it for me.

But, I don't blame him, cause if I had Zooey Deschanel, I wouldn't be sad either!

I dunno I actually kinda prefer Narrow Stairs to Plans... but that could be just my warped brain / taste... hehehehehe....

Haha everyone has their own taste. I guess I just didn't feel the emotion in Narrow Stairs. Grapevine Fires and Long Division were pretty good, but I had more favorites from Plans.

p.s. It might be because I love piano melodies

I completely agree. In fact, I have discovered more emotion on the Open Door EP (My Mirror Speaks, Talking Bird (demo) etc.). Narrow Stairs seemed a little forced to me, and that's coming from a huge fan. I wasn't drawn to many of the tracks and don't usually enjoy it when they play this material live, and quite frankly, Ben seems bored with it too!
