TheBig3 08-23-2004 10:15 PM

Once this question was asked in a diffrent forum. Someone mentioned "Scream of the Butterfly" by Acid bath. It was accurate.

PopIsDead 03-22-2005 06:13 PM

Oh, and "Worms vs. Birds" by Modest Mouse is another depressing song, but its only around 2 minutes long.

PopIsDead 03-22-2005 06:14 PM

Actually, a lot of old Modest Mouse songs are depressing.

Better than his stuff with Chiodos, that's for sure.

Life in a Glasshouse by Radiohead is up there, but they write a lot of depressing music... I'll say Two Headed Boy Pt. 2 by NMH

mannny 02-04-2009 08:15 PM

Radiohead's most depressing song is definetly Motion Picture Soundtrack.

Janszoon 02-04-2009 08:22 PM

Speaking of Radiohead, Thom Yorke's duet with Bjork on her song "I've Seen It All" is one of the most depressing songs ever.

Also, the Grandaddy song "The Warming Sun" is a serious downer. In fact several songs off of Sumday are pretty depressing.

Noel 02-04-2009 11:39 PM

My top 5 favorite wallowing songs:

1. A new low in getting high- Brian Jonestown Massacre
2. Last night I dreamt that somebody loved me- The Smiths
3. Wickerman- Pulp
4. Seems so long ago, Nancy- Leonard Cohen
5. The parting glass- The Pogues

Hope it helps
Misery loves company

The song ends with "I will see you in the next life." I take that as a more hopeful/optimistic feeling myself, but idk.

I guess it can be interpreted different ways, but for me that's like the most depressing line ever. Have you heard the acoustic version? It makes it ten times more depressing because it doesn't have all those heavenly harps and stuff.

musicismyradar 02-05-2009 05:41 PM

Martha by Tom Waits. Hands down!

After hearing that 3rd verse in the acoustic version I'm going to concede this one to you. Depressing indeed. Wonderfully underrated song, and when that line is sung it is one of the most powerful Radiohead moments.

Grapefruit Moon is pretty damn sad as well. The entire album is a really emotional experience.

Stamper 02-05-2009 10:06 PM

Moonlight Mile by the Rolling Stones is an extremely heartfelt song and could definitely go under the depressing category, I highly recommend it. Something In The Way by Nirvana is another good one it doesn't get much sadder then that tone wise. Another lesser known one would be Cold Again by Freedy Johnston.

ixtlan22 02-05-2009 10:45 PM

Check out "Wai"- by Bonnie "Prince" Billy. I don't listen too closely to lyrics till like the 800th time through but upon the first 100 listens its at the very least melancholy. And it's the most beautiful song I know right now.
