Alternative Dead?

I think Alt is on the comeback path. Nirvana has made nirvana-esque bands the mainstream. So I think groups that follow the Bush/Nickleback/Creed suit are mainstream. I also think people who followed the Korn scene like Disturbed/Trapt/Three days grace are the mainstream. So bands like the White Stripes, The Killers, Bright Eyes, and Drive-by Truckers are the new Alternative.

The problem with alternative is that its
A.) Objective and
B.) Never stagnant.

Alternative is alive and well. Whats cool will be dumbed down and mass marketed making anyting slightly complicated and too deep for Joe Walmart the new Alt.

i think someone mentioned this about bands calling themselves alternative just to seem different. i don't really remember who but there was band being interviewed and they said they wanted to be known as pop/punk because the term alternative was being pasted on everything much like a fad.Oh and i love the subways!!! contrary to the people's taste here they have shows where they play pretty good music. i

my opinion on this has changed a little. i look at acts such as sigur ros, john conn & the glass gypsies etc as alternative. any band or act with an element of rock cant really be seen as alternative now- rock has never been so popular and in demand.

that's true. the need for individualism is growing and when they hear alternative, they all turn to see what it's all about.so why not label yourself as alternative and maybe you can cheat some people into buying a couple hundred cds...it's as crazy as donald trump selling water and ice with 'trump' written all over them......

Alternative has always been to much of general term for me, I mean find a better description for yourself! I like alot of stuff people call alternative, but I always try to throw it into better catagories
