It's MUCH poppier. It really depends on why you hated Deerhunter in the first place. If you found them boring and too ambient, and have a taste for shoegaze, Microcastle/Wierd Era Cont. will probably give you a 360 degree change of opinion on them.

It would be, if it began like their other stuff, evolved and transmutated into something quite fundamentally different, and then ended back at square one.

I've given "Cryptograms" a few listens and I still find it to be rather dull. I can't exactly say why but, it doesn't really stand out I guess.
