j Mascis can write some good damn songs - and he's a great guitar player, to boot. I happen to think "Where You Been" was DJr's best album.

How is that possible? It's so... mediocre.

The innovation and pure awesomeness on tracks like Little Furry Things or Forget the Swan is so much better than the boring post-grunge melodicism of tracks like Feel The Pain, which don't really have much going for them besides being kinda catchy.

Don't get me wrong, I liked "You're Living All Over Me", but didn't really dig the Peter Frampton tongue-in-cheek ending.Plus, I thought that "Kracked" and "Sludgefeast" were the best songs on the album - I haven't heard the remastered version, but the original CD had some pretty bad recording values.

And I the reason that I like "Where You Been" so much is because it is more catchy. It's still got j Mascis' raw guitar work, but I always felt that the melodies and layers to the music were much more honed and polished than on some of their earlier releases.

Default Farm is out!

Haven't listened to it yet (will tonight) but I have a feeling that this will be a Dinosaur Jr. summer.
