Huge twee pop fan here. Love Camera Obscura as well, My Maudlin Career is one of my favorite releases this year.

I'm kind of hoping my death is caused by intense amounts of twee, that would be nice.

Haha, nice. Now, I see a lot of twee fans with Magnetic Fields plays, are they twee-ish at all? Also, I totally agree that My Maudlin Career is one of my favorites for this year, by far.

Not quite in the same sense as most twee bands, but I'm sure you'd find something in their disco that counts, Merritt has a **** ton of material. One of the Magnetic Fields side projects, The 6ths, would be more fitting to the twee label I think.

Get 69 Love Songs regardless if you don't have it already.

Alright yeah I gave The 6ths a listen and I can see where the twee comparisons come from, and I really like them!

Also on another note, I got 69 Love Songs and wow... I have only listened to half of them because I find myself wanting to listen to it from start to finish everytime I listen. I can never seem to get through all of them though, so I think I might just continue where I left off next time I give that album a listen.

Any other good Magnetic Fields albums I should check out?

Oh, and Camera Obscura released a cover song "Blizzard" in time for the holidays. Any Cam Obscura fans should most definitely check it out.

Big Camera Obscura fan, really glad to see the new album is getting the attention they've been denied for too long.
Magnetic Fields seem pretty ace,if you like twee I think Beat Happening are utterly essential listening as are Orange Juice and Felt.

Oh of course... Calvin pretty much started twee in the US....i think?

Anyways, as much as I love Beat Happening, I tend to like the female vocalists more in the twee bands. Beat Happening is different though, and that is why I like them so much...

And yeah it is nice to Camera Obscura is getting bigger. I think before "Lets Get Out Of This Country" they still had day jobs, but now I think they are doing the band gig full time, which is good so they focus more time on making their amazing music.
What is your favorite album by them?

69 Love Songs is magnificent! Usually I'll just listen to a single volume at a time because it's such a massive album. Hard to pick a favorite disc, each have their own perks. 69 Love Songs is Merritt in his prime though, so you might not enjoy the other albums quite as much, but they're definitely worth hearing. I'd go for either Holiday or Get Lost.

They've also got a new album coming out soon, Realism, you might be able to catch them on tour if you're lucky.

Alright I will check those out. Now have you heard Distortion? I got that album when I got 69 Love Songs, and I liked that one as well. I don't know how well it was received from a regular fan such as yourself, but I enjoyed.
Holiday wouldn't happen to be an album about the holidays though, would it?

Distortion was actually the first album I heard from them. I liked it at the time but compared to all the synthy albums I heard afterwards it just didn't hold up for me.. actually I forgot all about it once I got ahold of 69 Love Songs. Too Drunk To Dream is a great song, though.

..and not quite . Merritt uses holiday in more of the vacation/break sense of the word. The man does love his themed albums.
