They have a unique name, I'll give them that.

jackhammer 01-04-2008 03:47 PM

I have got TRANSATLANTICISM and really like a lot of stuff on there, but there are a few weak tracks on there. what IS their best album? or can Ethan be my saviour and post a splendid DCFC comp for me?

Laces Out Dan! 01-04-2008 03:57 PM

I prefer "Plans" over Transatlanticism tenfold.

Washington indie-pop/rockers Death Cab For Cutie sound like a combination of Sunny Day Real Estate, Elliott Smith, and a mellow Built to Spill. Ben Gibbard's voice is like that of Elliott Smith, quiet and with a shy feel and lyrically he holds that articulate feel that Morrissey has, though hes slightly cheesy at times and more flowery. Backed by a slightly twinkly indie-pop sound, it maybe moody and at times corny enough to make you smile, but it's always honest.

Already did one awhile ago, the thing about Death Cab is they have a bunch of good songs just not all on one album. You have to wade through the filler to hear the goodies.

jackhammer 01-04-2008 06:53 PM

^^^

Thank's Ethan.

I agree. I love them, but I don't think there is one album that is defiant over the rest.

Tlom47 01-06-2008 03:42 PM

i really want to check them out...i like a few of their songs but never really listened to any of their albums

O'Bannion 01-07-2008 09:26 AM

I admit, Coney Island is one of my favorite songs ever. Love it.

jackhammer 01-07-2008 04:16 PM

Link is dead :(

ProggyMan 01-13-2008 12:35 AM

Punknews.org | Death Cab for Cutie promises louder, abrasive, dissonant new album

Sounds like it's going to be dope.

Laces Out Dan! 01-14-2008 10:27 PM

I'll most definitely be checking that out.

ProggyMan 01-14-2008 10:36 PM

It'll be interesting to see how Ben's voice interacts with the songs.

O'Bannion 01-15-2008 03:38 AM

Influenced by Brainiac. Hahaha. **** YES!

15Steps 01-15-2008 01:02 PM

this will be an interesting new album, i plan to give it a listen.
in my eyes, i think it will either be incredible or terrible. with death cab there really is no inbetween.

sleepy jack 01-15-2008 02:07 PM

I don't think it will be terrible. Walla and Gibbard are both pretty combatant and they've only grown more talented. If it's bad they're the kind of musicians who will realize it and end up scraping it and putting out Plans version 2.

Chris Walla's solo album is really generic.

burnblack 01-25-2008 06:39 AM

i got all the albums.. they´re pretty good.
try to listen to snow patrol =D
they´re good too:wave:

likeSOgeeky 01-29-2008 03:12 PM

if you like death cab you might like some of dashboard confessional's stuff
and possibly biirdie
they're kinda folksy, i think.

sleepy jack 01-29-2008 05:49 PM

Dashboard Confessional doesn't sound anything like Death Cab, even if they did Dashboard is awful.

likeSOgeeky 01-29-2008 08:50 PM

okay, sorry.
i might just be mixing up band names.
too many to remember, you know?

miskit 01-29-2008 10:51 PM

dashboard is compared to death cab a lot. it is what i consider a teeny bopper band, which isnt always so bad. they do have one song that i like 'vindicated' i think. now i will catch hell, but i do like that song

sleepy jack 01-29-2008 10:52 PM

They don't sound alike, the comparison is invalid.

miskit 01-29-2008 10:56 PM

that may be true but either way they are compared, i think death cab is better and not as well (i can't think of the word to describe dash) whiny or loud at the same time. but i have read on several sites and they are compared as invalid as it may be

sleepy jack 01-29-2008 11:02 PM

There's no "that may be true" about it, Death Cab play indie/pop/rock Dashboard is whiny acoustic power chord based music for scene kids. They're completely different bands, even when Death Cab is acoustic (A Lack of Color, 405, I Will Follow You Into the Dark) they don't sound like Dashboard.

likeSOgeeky 01-30-2008 04:44 AM

i appreciate the fact that you feel strongly about the subject but there's no need to start an argument about it.
different people, different opinions, right?

sleepy jack 01-30-2008 05:25 PM

There's nothing subjective about it though, liking something or not is subjective whether or not something sounds like something is objective. Dashboard sounds nothing like Death Cab even at their most similar.

Clownbaby 01-30-2008 05:59 PM

Who's betta Nickelback or Tool? LOLZ OMGZ PWN PWN NOOOOBZ

miskit 01-30-2008 06:01 PM

ok well let me re-phrase it, on several different music websites dashboard is considered by several to be indie or even emo. i disagree, but i have seen them lumped together with deathcab and others.
i agree with you, i just see why some think they are similiar

Nosmada 01-30-2008 08:29 PM

DashBoard in no way is anything like Death Cab, if you want something like Death Cab check out The Thrills, or something like that.

likeSOgeeky 01-31-2008 08:49 PM

okay, sorry guys, didnt mean to start a big thing.
maybe i was thinking of another band.

Farfisa 02-04-2008 05:57 AM

grahhhh im sick of hearing about these guys.......all these preppy emo kids listen to them at my school........

treping 02-04-2008 03:17 PM

there are from canada right ?

indie bands booked 02-04-2008 03:49 PM

"where promoters come to book indie bands and promote labels" even Canada, maybe:drummer:

sleepy jack 02-04-2008 04:12 PM

I'm sure Death Cab really need to be promoted and booked.

that would be cool, if it were true they would play up here more often, not that they never do play up here.
